ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, April 29, 2026 — The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has extended its operating hours to 10 p.m. as officials work to process a surge in voter ID card applications ahead of Thursday’s general election.
In a notice issued Wednesday, the Commission said the extended hours are intended to facilitate the printing of permanent voter ID cards submitted during the day and to ensure they are ready for collection early Thursday morning.
However, ABEC made clear that the window for replacement or renewal applications will close at 7 p.m.

“Anyone [who] presents themselves after 7 pm would have to return tomorrow for a Special ID Card,” the Commission stated.
The move comes amid heightened last-minute activity as electors rush to secure valid identification required to vote. The Commission has been urging voters to complete the process promptly to avoid delays on Election Day.
With polling set for April 30, officials are seeking to streamline operations and ensure all eligible voters are properly equipped to cast their ballots.

If we have a fix date for election ,all ghis chaos would have ever happen. All parties and rejection officials would ge ready . This is a sham democracy. The PM knows exactly when he is going to call the election, hence he can prepared his candidates and also get all his dots in place. This isn’t fair to all the other parties or candidates contesting for a seat. . Stop this nonsense about free and fair election, with the present system.
It is the eve of the great election and needless to say Michael Freeland will not be able to get my vote. Sad sad thing cuz what am I gonna vote with? Lol
