Antigua and Barbuda was named as one of the fastest-growing economy for 2019 in the Caribbean along with Dominica and Anguilla by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean’s (ECLAC’s) Preliminary Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean for 2019.
According to Sheldon McLean – Coordinator of Economic Development Unit of ECLAC, the aforementioned is as a result of the revision of macroeconomic performance of the Caribbean economies in 2019 and outlined projections for 2020.
“Some strong growth increases as growth strengthened in the hurricane ravaged economies of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda as reconstruction efforts intensified, foreign direct investments strengthened and the tourism industry recovered with public sector investment support.” said McLean
“Economic growth was subdued in 2019 across most Caribbean economies due to the impact of fiscal austerity measures in some countries and lack of investor confidence. The weighted average real growth in the region remained unchanged at 1.4 percent in 2019 relative to 2018. Among the goods-producing economies, GDP growth is expected to be 1.2 percent in 2019 (up from 0.8 percent in 2018), while the service-producing economies declined marginally to 1.7 percent (down from 1.8 percent in 2018).” McLean added.
McLean also informed that the 2014-2020 period will mark the lowest growth in the last seven decades for Latin American and Caribbean Economies.

As I am writing I am also listening Observer AM with.D.Gisel Isaac. I finally came to the conclusion that this Lady should NOT be around POLITICS. The UPP should fire this Lady. She does NOT know how to give compliments. D.Gisel Isaac CANNOT find one good thing done by this Administration. The UPP would not go further with these People at the helm. D.Gisel Isaac and Harold Lovell should leave POLITICS . They are doing Their Party and Antiguans a TOTAL DIS-SERVICE. Long Lived Hon.Gaston Browne and ABLP.

IF both of these people would resign, the party would be invigorated. A new leader might inspire the UPP, but it will be difficult. Things going so well in Antigua, and the people are not interested in a change of government. Maybe in 20 years, but even that is wishful thinking, not based in reality.
There are many that are not quite seeing “things going so well in Antigua” so maybe you can list these going so well things (including the status of the debt and high unemployment) so that we would know exactly what they are and perhaps be able to understand the reality of why the taxation/cost of living in Antigua is so excessively high.
Be honest, do you really care? The signs are there for those who arn’t closing their eyes:
1. Best Medical Facility in the OECS (MSJ)
2. Among the fastest growing economies in not only just the region, also the World
3. Tourism numbers breaking records
4. A&B has been on no blacklist unlike many of our regional counterparts
5. University of A&B
6. Best regulated CIP program in the OECS region (most transparent program)
7. Our HDI scores continue to increase during this administration tenure
8. Nation at the forefront for reparatory justice
9. Leading in the region when it comes to reducing the use of plastics.
10. 33 ranking in the rule of law report (2019), which places us ahead of your USA (50)
Yet you prefer to find some small issue to blow out of proportion to justify your need for the sky to be falling. Boss we live in a blessed though imperfect country
With all this fast growth the government and people must be applauded.
If the growth is real when will government employees including ministers see a special bonus for this accomplishment?
Reward sweetens labour. All this growth should mean surplus. A time of plenty.

Release the IMF Article 5 report!
There is no such beast, suspect you mean the Article IV. NO idea what that has to do with the topic on hand which is about growth. The IMF on its very website points out our GDP increased by 7.4% (see Country Data) last year and cites this very # in in publications on growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its 2019 dated projections (4%) though some 3% lower than the more updated figure, shows us again at the forefront of the Latin America and Caribbean region (.5%)
Here is Skyewill (‘political scientist & socio-economic professor’) commenting on the Antigua Observer Newspaper (AON) editorial: The Opposition, 3/23/18, after the 2018 general elections:
SKYEWILL:…..”They have manpower and the ability to raise money why not put that energy into building something that will economically benefit real people while they wait until the next election.”
Here is SMOOD (‘political scientist & socio-economist”) commenting on The AON editorial:Stronger together or apart, 3/24/18, after the 2018 general elections.
SMOOD:…..”DNA sits in a good position to become a “viable” option in the political arena; they simply have to continue in campaign mode by taking their message(s) to the people, do work by bringing to fruition at least one major project and employ people before the next general elections. Focus on Agriculture, the Arts & Entertainment, the Environment (in particular the Parks & Recreation and eco-friendly Tourism).”
These comments are their direct call and challenge to the opposition parties to make some significant change from the traditional opposition politics. The opportunities to realize these idea are there. Will they ever grab them?
Look I agree with them, DNA will be the future (have said it before), the UPP is dead. They lack a real core philosophy, just hate for those they oppose. First their nemesis was the Bird’s, they have now created a new one in the Browne’s. I see the UPP with a name change and a new focus under those who lead the DNA.As far as agriculture being the way forward, I disagree. Those who suggest such are inebriated. Yes it can play a part but not as significant as tourism

I WISH YOU WILL THINK ABOUT PROGRESS AND STOP TALKING ABOOUT IMF ARTICLE 5 REPORT . WHAT GOOD ARTICLE 5 REPORT WILL DO FOR ANTIGUA ? I BELIEVE THAT YOU LISTEN TO KNIGHT FROM THE OTHER RADIO STATION . PLEASE THINK FOR YOURSELF AND STOP FOLLOWING PEOPLE. PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAP AND SEE THE PROGRESS BEING MADE BY HON.GASTON BROWNE AND HIS ADMINISTARTION. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REPORT. I HOPE IT WILL STICK IN YOUR THICK BRAINS. SHAME ON YOU.
Showing how idiotic they are, no such thing exists. IMF has nothing with that title. Its actually article IV and provides the IMF opinion of which we all know of the many times they have been wrong. Even Under the UPP, there were disagreements and the then UPP government at times did not give permission for them to be published. Some of those attacking A&B, can be seen lauding SKN yet the government there has also not given IMF permission to publish their many times erroneous opinion
