A letter to Troy Allen

20

Dear Troy,

Yesterday, I sat in amazement & listened to you on your talk show, expressing in anger your plight concerning your mum’s experience at the SLBMC, a few days ago.

I was even more astonished when I heard the president of the local nurse’s association shared her experience with her son..

They were both nerve rocking stories and ofcourse they were stories not welcoming to one’s ears.

Now Troy, as you aware,  there have been several calls to the authorities to look into the state of affairs at our hospital… The calls from you & Mrs. Dupie-Winston are just additional cries appended to the list.

Obviously, these cries seem to be ignored by the authorities and moreso there seems not to be a voice heard or actions taken by the health minister.

There is no doubt that the hospital is in a mess and needs immediate attention, especially the ER dept. The hospital is definitely understaffed and those who are there, are surely overwhelmed with work.  It has caused a considerable degree of frustration, resentment & anger within the medical fraternity.

It is my view that what is metted by the medical staff and the public at large is injustice & gross disrespectful, & wickedness displayed by the health authorities & the government.

Surprisingly, there are several persons seeking employment in the medical care system. Some are young doctors, young nurses and even young medical technicians who are all unemployed. Most, if not all, are students who have completed their studies abroad and  returned home with the intention of giving back to the country of their birth. Yet still they have not been giving the opportunity.

Some of these young people are now wondering if they have now become second class citizens. As you rightly said, it is those who feels it knows it.

I would also add to such sentiments that our culture needs changing. Our voices need to be heard at all times…… It is only when we find ourselves in the kitchen we then cry about the heat that we are experiencing.

Once again I empathize with you. Let me hope that all goes well with your mum & ofcourse for the dear  nurse & others who are experiencing a similar fate…

Alex

  1. Troy my “buddy”,I hope you now see what people have been saying all along and why people like me so hate the govt you seek to always praise. Those in charge have all put throw up their hands showing those Willing to see that ABLP never had any solutions. Added to that, they never even cared. I mean, how could you continue to pack the country with people and it not have an effect on your health care, and other, facilities?
This is what a failed state looks like. Soon we will have nothing on Haiti.

  2. Only now bird people know about the state of the hospital?guess because the shoe is on the other foot now huh

  3. @ just a talk… please go to the head of the class! It is very easy for laborites to try to defend nonsense and point the finger until it hits home! This should teach a lesson to have an open mind and defend country, not Party!!

  4. Why it’s have to be some dumb ass political foolishness and blaming the authorities and politicians? No one is responsible for anyone poor behavior. No one can manage another person’s conduct. Poor service from anyone has nothing to do with anyone but only the person’s who are supposed to offer the service.

    • Dear Colombo, I disagree. The working conditions are deplorable. No human being could work in such conditions without becoming despondent and unproductive. Even the ones that do their best get tired. While I empathize with Mr. Allen for his mother’s experience, I firmly believe that the ministry is failing it’s frontline staff deplorably. It is clear to see that is the case.

    • Don’t they take the credit whenever they think that they have done well; who do you now expect to be culpable for the failures? Seems like you have just come out of hibernation.

  5. Only when the pig get hit with the stone you then hear the squeal…… When the top slack then the bottom will fall apart…

The health minister needs to get up off of high horse and get his priorities set right at the hospital…. The voice & cry of the people are cry if God!!!

In addition stop frustrate the young people. Employ them. They are qualified and need work to do …… SLBMC needs more manpower.

  6. The young doctors returning from Cuba do not want to work at the hospital. Most want to go into private practice so they can get a good living. Can’t really blame them. They can make alot more money in private practice than on a salary.

    • @ Truth Seeker: Your sentiments may not be 100% correct. Many of the young doctors do enjoy working at the hospital but the work load is a deterrent. In addition to their actual doctoral responsibilities, they find themselves doing the orderlies’ & nurses’ role due to the shortage of manpower and so they are also been pushed to the brim by the Sr. Doctors causing them to be overstressed….

      • This is true the senior Doctors and senior NURSES behave so bad sometimes with the junior staff that it gives you headache and it’s not you they talking to 😢😢 i believe the 2 fraternity is devilish just watching how both behave with their junior staff….

    • That is absolutely false. The Cuban trained doctors are in no hurry to go into private practice. They love knowing there are medical consultants or specialists on every shift with whom they can consult.

  7. Let me first wish Troy mom a speedy recovery. I Pray that the Almighty will cover her with his Healing Spirit and relieve the anxiety the family is feeling at this time.

For years, persons have been complaining, pointing out and speaking out about matters not only at the Main Hospital but the Clinics.

I am not convinced that better cannot be done and at the same time I am convinced that the majority of the people accept the ignorance because it continues and continues and continues.

It is true that financial limitation exists for the government but based on how I see some expenditure are prioritized, I am of the opinion that better can be done.

I have spoken to ‘people in the system’ and I can say based on what I have been told, those at the higher heights have been complained to over and over and over.

I am not going to get in no long talk.

Some persons interviewed for a job and we gave them the job. If we are not satisfied with the job that our employees are doing JUST FIRE THEM. Simple as that. Let’s start again and see how it goes.

As my dad and mom use to say, ‘NOTHING BEATS A TRIAL BUT A FAILURE’.

  8. Many more of you so call upper class will start feeling the kitchen heat, wait your time coming only then will you bawl hopefully it won’t be too late like many a situation that poor people face frequently at that hospital.

Knighted for bullshit and supported by the PM chupzzzzz

  9. So what happens if there is a airline disaster or a maritime disaster in proximity to our shores are you saying we are unable to assist with mass casualties?

Well our airport and cruise port should be underrated..
Just wait till this information take root in the international press ya’ll will never recover from that …Like I always said Antigua people deserve every bit of the licks dem a get …tek blow in ayo new nen ..ayo too passified.

  10. Who feels it knows it.Now that Troy Allen feels it for his Mom,he knows it.There are hundreds of poor non Partisan persons for years now. They have had several issues at the Mount St.John Hospital. You and others played Politics with the issues. Now that the shoes are on your feet, you lashed out.In as much as I empathized with your ailing Mom.Based on your past behaviors in regards to others.Who have gone to that hospital and met the same faith in regards to service.I do not feel your pains.Perhaps Gaston and Molwyn could scratch your back and give you a massage back into the Party.

  11. Troy Allen , you’re a wicked mother fuc*er ,with all your mother went through at the hospital you still don’t want to rub your government the wrong way so you calling for dye head molwin to fire the nurses and doctors, and for years the the nurses have been crying out about the poor working conditions, and patients have been crying as well and neither your crazy ass pm nor the dye head molwin have done anything about it and if it did not hit u in person you wouldn’t have had anything to say, you fuc*er a baeeeeeee .u buy documents antiman ass .

  12. Only when The Shoe is on The Other Foot It Not Fitting I have two copies of letters sent to the Present Minister with no acknowledgement
The first in reference to my presence at my great niece’s first delivery and second when I was a patient during COVID I believe THEY were discarded I have copies of these letters in my possession More to come

  13. @ Audley Dave Joseph (a.k.a. Beef)
You write “For years, persons have been complaining, pointing out and speaking out about matters not only at the Main Hospital but the Clinics”

While that’s true, it says the powers that be don’t F’ing care.

You write: It is true that financial limitation exists for the government.
I say the GOAB don’t care about issues such as health. Maybe if they redeployed the Ham and Turkey, and the election bribe money as well as the One Nation concert; there is money to fix one clinic.
The PM claimed it was private donation money for the concert. How about private donation for better healthcare.
The Medical Center with the most #1 rating in various departments has even entryway naming right from private donations.
The priorities of this country are in the wrong places.
The Nepo babies have their box houses that looks like bunkers. They drive trucks with tinted windows and glittering jewelry which they need for their self esteem

In the mean time this is the institution that’s going to get AI this and AI that from the China Agreements when it even can’t fix an AC unit.
The values and priorities in this Country are upside down, and this is the result.

  14. What are we complaining about? We didn’t say or do anything when they gave a man knighthood for banning plastic bags…. now the brain drain on the health services is coming full circle…. I have no one to call, so if I or a family member ends up at the hospital the overworked and overwhelmed staff will assist when they have time or if no one is there before me…. Sad state of affairs for our Outdoor Shithouse
