A Comrade’s Position: Asot Michael vs. Rawdon Turner

Asot Michael has long been recognized as a dedicated comrade within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and remains an influential political figure. While disagreements and conflicts are inevitable in any organization, there comes a time when it is crucial to move past these issues and focus on the greater good.

The alliance between Gaston Browne and Asot Michael represents a dynamic political force that could significantly contribute to the development and progress of Antigua and Barbuda. Despite Asot Michael’s past controversies and personal challenges, it is essential to establish boundaries and press forward for the sake of national advancement.

On the other hand, Rawdon Turner is perceived by many as not yet ready for the political arena. His reported struggles with effective communication and interpersonal skills may hinder his ability to connect with constituents.

Politics demands a certain warmth and approachability, qualities that some argue Turner lacks. Unlike construction, which is his background, politics requires a nuanced understanding of human interaction and public service.

Within the ABLP, there is a tradition of inclusivity, where all members are welcome, and no one is marginalized. Politically speaking, Asot Michael is seen as a more formidable candidate compared to the current alternative presented by the ABLP in St. Peter’s. The party may face challenges in reclaiming that seat without his influence and leadership.

Political acumen often requires recognizing the present realities, even if it means stepping back momentarily or admitting past missteps. Personal grievances must sometimes be set aside for the benefit of the party and the country.

Asot Michael embodies organization, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging for his fellow comrades. His absence is felt within the Labour Party, as many comrades express a longing for his return.

In the spirit of inclusion, if the party can extend reconciliation to figures like Edmund Mansoor, who once made harsh remarks about the party’s founding father, the Late Sir V.C. Bird, and others like Colin Browne and Damani Tabor, then surely there is room to welcome back Asot Michael wholeheartedly.

The comrades of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party express a strong desire for Asot’s return, particularly in St. Peter’s, where his influence is still profound. The party’s executive should consider this sentiment and potentially move towards a vote to facilitate his reintegration.

The time for decision and action is now. Let us unite and take this pivotal step forward.

  1. The article is nothing more than self-serving propaganda, likely penned by Asot Michael himself or one of his close associates, in a newspaper where he holds significant financial interest. It attempts to frame his return to the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) as essential for the party’s success, completely disregarding his controversial past and the personal misconduct that led to his fall from favor.

Claiming that Asot’s “absence is felt” within the party and painting him as the only viable candidate for St. Peter’s reeks of desperation. It’s clear that this is less about the party’s future and more about Asot’s personal ambitions. He tries to undermine the credibility of Rawdon Turner, the current ABLP candidate for St. Peter’s, by attacking his background and communication skills—yet conveniently glosses over his own shortcomings and controversies.

The notion of an alliance between Gaston Browne and Asot Michael being beneficial to the nation is laughable. Asot is a man plagued by scandals, and while every political figure faces challenges, his issues go far beyond simple disagreements. He’s grasping at straws, attempting to stage a comeback by pushing the idea of “reconciliation” within the party. Comparing himself to figures like Edmund Mansoor or Colin Browne is a weak attempt to cloak his return as some grand gesture of unity.

The comrades of the ABLP and the people of St. Peter’s deserve better than recycled rhetoric from someone trying to reclaim relevance through newspaper headlines. It’s time for the party to look forward, not backward, and continue with new leadership that truly represents the people.

  2. There is no need for this “comrade” to
skirt around what’s already obvious to everyone — which is, Asot WILL be reunited with the ALP. Asot fought to remain in the party; and, Gaston will do whatever it takes to maintain power. It is not lost on us that Gaston has been referring to Asot as “comrade” lately…Arwe nah trupit! 🤣🤣

  3. Asot a real dog!
Asot you forgot how the pm talked about you?
Did you forget how rotten he said you was?
    You forgot Asot?
Or you going to ley bygones be bygones
And conveniently forgot everything he said!
    Really!
    Really Asot!
He once said he would rather resign than have you back in his government!
    You forgot Asot?
He gave you back the watch you gave him.
    Eh Asot!
    You a real dog!
    Hmmm
    What short memories we have
I guess it’s a dog eats dog world!
Both of you make me sick to me tomach!😪😫

  4. Has anyone driven around the community of Parham lately? There are so many derelict buildings and plots overrun with high trees and bushes? Even the cemetery needs upkeep! I asked myself the question, Who is looking after the well-being of the residents of Parham? Are they happy with the existing conditions? Issues like this matter!

  5. Prediction from Brixtonian:

Asot Michael will eventually rejoin the ABLP in the not too distant future.

He’s letting the country down by not revealing what he has on Gaston Browne’s uncouth behaviour inside and outside of governance.

Is the Independent candidate Asot Michael another “hostage to Browne’s fortune?”

  6. Look , My PM is not God. If God can forgive us of our sins, who is my PM not to forgive Mr Micheal ?
Mr Michael is a good and no nonsense man
    So is the PM.
Let leave this decision to the people of St Peters and members of the ABLP. Let the PM call for a meeting.
We need StPeter seat to clean up the UPP and send them packing . It’s not on the PM to dictate who run or who doesn’t. It’s the people of the constituency , have meetings in all the constituency and let the people decide. Not the PM
