SOURCE LOOPNEWS: The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has declared its recent national gun amnesty program a success, with seven firearms and seven rounds of assorted ammunition surrendered to authorities during the three-week initiative.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, Acting Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers expressed satisfaction with the results of the amnesty, which ran from April 7 to April 30.

The surrendered weapons included one shotgun, one rifle, two revolvers, one pistol, and two air rifles described as pellet or BB guns. According to officials, the amnesty allowed citizens to voluntarily turn in weapons without facing prosecution for illegal possession.

This latest initiative is part of the Force’s comprehensive strategy to combat gun violence and improve public safety throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

By providing a safe, legal channel for the surrender of unregistered or unwanted firearms, authorities hope to prevent these weapons from being used in criminal activities.

  1. The surrendered weapons included… two air rifles/pellet guns… LMAO! What’s next? Peashooters/Blowpipes? Slingshots? Paper airplanes?

Come on Government of Antigua, change your backward and outdated laws.

  2. Sorry, I cannot see that as success. A start – maybe, but success? Definitely not. How many gun-related crimes have we heard of during this same time?

  3. The amnesty was offered because there was deemed to be a proliferation of illegal guns as is evidenced by the number of gun crimes, so how are 7 guns a very significant number to be called a success when more than that have been confiscated?

  4. You got to be kidding only 7 gun and it’s a success. The mediocrity real in this place….anyways no real badman a surrender gun all punk do that dem man’s have to come get the guns themself

  5. Do y’all really think that anyone is going to turn in their only gun? Gun Amnesty is a foolish plot implemented by any administration..it’s a lazy approach, cand it actually provides a loophole for criminals who have committed crimes with this same guns that were used in past crimes.

You can never get full justice for victims in that way..it’s a lazy approach, and does not work and did not work in this case.

What police needs to do is investigate these crimes more thoroughly, and bring criminals to justice, no matter how cold the case is. We need closure on many of these cases that are unsolved throughout the island, not a lazy approach as “Gun Amnesty”.

From what I know so far..Chantel was not killed with a Gun, and many of the missing persons. Bring closure to those atrocities Commish, that’s what the people need.

Many of these criminals have more than one gun, or have access to more than one gun, so 7 little guns turned in, means nothing at all. Stop the guns from coming into your ports, because that’s where many of the breaches are, at those corrupt ports in the island.

  6. Plenty plenty more illegal guns out there, this is nothing. Do more raids, stop and searches etc….the 9 to 5 policing won’t work.
