5 Cameroonians who left Antigua illegally are on hunger strike to force BVI authorities to allow them to seek asylum in the USVI

The hunger strike of five Aindividuals from Cameroon, who have been detained in the British Virgin Islands for over a month, continues into its third day.

The individuals left Antigua illegally by boat according to a spokesman for the group who wrote to ANR.

John Benson says they have taken this extreme measure to pressure the British Virgin Islands (BVI) authorities into allowing them to proceed to the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and seek assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Having fled the perils of their homeland, the detainees had hoped to find refuge in Saint Thomas, USVI, but were intercepted during their journey.

For weeks, they have pleaded with the BVI government to grant them access to communication devices, enabling them to reconnect with their families and loved ones.

Furthermore, they have repeatedly requested a dialogue with the UNHCR to address their urgent need for asylum.

Regrettably, their appeals for assistance have fallen on deaf ears, with the BVI government.

The African American community, dedicated to fighting for equality and human rights for Africans globally, stands united in their support of the detainees. Spearheaded by President John Benson of the African American movement, they vow to bring international attention to this humanitarian crisis by presenting the irrefutable evidence to relevant authorities and media organizations.

As the hunger strike enters its third day, the detainees are resolute in their determination to speak directly with the UNHCR. They have made it clear that they are prepared to risk their lives in the pursuit of justice and the opportunity to secure asylum. Their bravery and sacrifice serve as a powerful reminder of the lengths individuals will go to seek safety and freedom from persecution.

President Benson encourages everyone, including concerned citizens and media outlets, to verify the authenticity of the situation unfolding in the British Virgin Islands. By shedding light on these injustices, they hope to hold the BVI government accountable and ensure the safe release of the unlawfully detained Cameroonians.

  1. These persons illegally traveled to BVI and are demanding!! they should be arrested and charged for trafficking and illegal entry .. our country has borders for a reason ….

  2. You know when all these Antiguan peopl talk about the ‘mother land’ and how great Africa is…. Think again, this is what happens. Africa has a lot of desperate people willing to take your place and mine.

  3. Big dutty chups.
They can go back home if they want. Idk what’s so grand about getting into America of all places right now, and that stupid group bout African this… why go to the source of the shyt that’s the ppl in power in Africa, they corruption there stink.
Since slavery days they selling out ppl now in modern time they still doing sme shady shyt but nobody wanna highlight that and put them in the spotlight

    To clean up their ways

  4. This seem to be turning out to be an unlikely blessing for Antigua and Barbuda. From the onset, these West Africans had no interest of settling in Antigua & Barbuda as Antigua & Barbuda was just a transit point for them. Regrettably, they will continue to be a nuisance to other Caribbean islands as they fancy their chances of getting to the United States better from those areas. What a nightmare this has been for Antigua & Barbuda!

  5. If they leave Antigua,it’s mean that these people don’t want to be here, this news in those people is not our concerns, why trying to on to what don’t want to stat….them nu wa tap yah

  6. Gaston Browne deliberately or undeliberately allowed his migrants to be running a mock within the Caribbean Basin. His migrants entered Antigua illegally, at that point they should have been returned to West Africa.

Browne ‘s migrants purpose for entering Antigua remains unclear, they status changed from “rich tourists “, thereafter, they purpose changed to “,intransit tourists” that notion failed. Minsters from ALP and Olabanjo gave them an escape clause to claiming “asylum”.

They current position is when things not going their way “hunger strike”. Frankly speaking islands outside of Antigua should ignore their claim, they are fraudsters and should not be allowed to manipulate or abuse the situation.

There is a famous saying: ” you can take a horse to paddock, but you can’t force it to eat”. If they are refusing food that is their human rights. They should not be allowed to hold any country to ransom.

G B and Olabanjo are responsible for the mess unfolding in the Caribbean. Olabanjo was at hand at the airport when the West Africans were trafficked to Antigua, at that point they were not claiming asylum status.

Olabajo confirmed that GB migrants were trafficked to Antigua because Antigua is under-populated.

The United Nations should sanctioned an investigation into GB and Olabanjo’s involvements before considering asylum application.

  7. Look at the utter mess and chaos that Gaston ‘Mea Culpa’ Browne and the ABLP have created in this region.

And while Gaston’s acolytes and his minions are rejoicing over the sale of the Alfa Nero, you won’t get a pip-squeak out of them about this.

No wonder Max Fernández soooon gone!

  8. This will not go away until an inquiry delves into the root of this. These Africans are indeed fraudsters and the BVI should send them back to Africa. Gaston Browne benefited somehow and has things to hide.
Oh, this mess is not going away.

  9. Gaston Browne Migrants are turning up all over the Caribbean. This brain child of Browne is creating a serious security threat for the region.
So far Guyana, Trinidad, St kitts, St Maarten. Jamaica, BVI, St Thomas, Barbados, and Guadeloupe have been negatively impacted by Gaston Browne’s Migrants.
WHEN WILL THE CARIBBEAN LEADERS ASK FOR HIS RESIGNATION FOR THIS SERIOUS SECURITY FIASCO.

  10. This is a real pappyshow. GASTON B has made Antigua and Barbuda his own comedy show and his personal piggy bank to enrich himself. I hope he realize that he and his band of thieves will be found out soon enough.

  11. I wrote several times that Antiguan and Barbuda fishermen are still making daily trips St.Maarten, Tortola and USVI. To date we have not captured one fishing boat trafficking these Africans out of Antigua. That is how simple it is to traffic drugs in and out of Antigua.

  12. All of them need to go including Olabanjo, and followed by ALP.

Gaston’s migrants are fraudsters and the stance that BVI has taken is the right one. If they choose to starve to death that’s their choice, no government should be held to ransom by them.
Olabanjo along with ALP are fully responsible for the embarrassment that has unfolded. The chief immigration officer stated in the Observer that Olabanjo used government’s vehicle to taxi two of his friends that arrived in Antigua in early hours of the morning.

What has happened to those two friends of Olabanjo, has he secured employment with the ministry of Argiculture who employed him?

International charity agencies needs to establish the facts before advocating for Gaston’s migrants, they are fraudsters and should be regarded as such.

They should be put back on a plane and return to Mutualah Muhammad International Airport where they originated from.

International charity agencies should use resources to aid genuine people in need and not abusers of the system.

International agencies are reminded of the Kuwaiti crisis when many Kuwaiti flee Kuwait claiming they were in fear of their lives. The British government opened its doors and housed a Kuwaiti family in Maida Vale, an affluent neighbourhood in London.

The family got free accommodation, free education. Long story short;one of the sons repaid the British tax payers by becoming a Jahadist who was responsible for chopping off Westerners head after receiving a British University degree paid for by British tax payers.

The West African saga was staged by Gaston Browne and Olabanjo and their scheme has backed fired on them. The international community should focus their attention on those two.

Olabanjo with the approval of Gaston Browne who he described as having a “tight relationship with established an Antigua and Nigeria board of Commerce with Olabanjo as the director.

Citizens of Antigua remains unclear of what was being traded . Olabanjo was repeatedly asked by a journalist what was being traded and Olabanjo could not answer the question and became aggressive with the journalist.

Inquries were made with Nigeria High Commission in London who confirmed that Nigeria has no knowledge of that venture.

It is said that Gaston Browne’s migrants paid $5000 US for a one way ticket to Antigua, the payee included the so called friends of Olabanjo who’s the director of Antigua and Nigeria board of commerce.

The UN and international charity organisations should do their research before committing supports to Gaston’s and Olabanjo’s migrants, otherwise the outcomes could be catastrophic.

  13. Incidentally, they cannot be regarded as being unlawfully detained, they wilfully and knowingly attempted to enter BVI illegally.

The BVI authorities only caught wind of their illegal entry when their scam back fired on them to the point they were stuck in bushes.

The BVI authorities should continue with taking a firm stance with them and should go one step further a return them to Nigeria, as that is where they originated from.

BVI do not give in to international pressure.

  14. Myself and many on here warned how toxic this thing will get, because we know how business deals are made, and warned the Antigua Government about dealing with any Nigerian businessmen, and now here we are with this continues toxic relationship. All I can do is just shake my head. You cannot make backhand deals with corrupt people and just think that’s it and everything is cool!! What a damn shame and the embarrassment this has caused. Everything this current administration does is just messy, really messy. Sigh 😔.

  15. Greetings all who saying send them back to Africa do you know how it feels living in a country that is at war any day you can lose your life killing raping robbery constant crime ever day the government of antigua take a lum sum of cash to accept 5 charter plane and that’s a fact these Africans didn’t came antigua to stay are you government hold on to all the cash and didn’t share the funds with other countries where they wanted to go forcing them to leave on boat and that’s a fact all they are looking for is a better life is it a crime to seek a better life?
