  1. Why not close the border? I am not Antiguan but I have loved you for over 30 years. I lived with you as a young woman and have VIP poor friends. If I could I would fly there and help. You are always welcome here. It saddens me so much that greed has become more important than life and the care we ought to share. People are hypocrites. Just know that as a white old lady in England I care from afar with a genuine love for my friends there. Please keep joy and love in your hearts.

    • I agree with everything you wrote.

The reason there is a huge outbreak right now is that the border was opened with no protocols or restrictions on tourists at all. And even less restrictions on people who arrived by private plane and yacht.

It is horrifying how this pandemic has been mishandled.

  2. If it’s non-imported, then that should indicate community spread. But they keep telling us that there’s no community spread.

And ultimately all cases can be traced back to someone who travelled abroad or lives abroad and is only visiting Antigua because COVID does not come from Antigua.

There’s no reason to separate the cases this way other than to cause confusion.

    • Close the border and stop yachties and illegal part time residents from flouting the rules. I know of many people who ignore Covid until it hurts. Money money money! So sad for all.

    • “Imported” means the person had recent travel history.
“Non-Imported” means the person contracted it locally from a known source.
“Community-Spread” means the person contracted it locally but doesn’t know who in the community they contracted it from.

      • If a person contracted it locally from someone who traveled recently they’d label that nonimported

And it would be pretty meaningless

These categories only allow the PM to pretend the problem is Antiguans and not the fact he let in tens of thousand of people from high COVID areas without restriction.

COVID is not endemic to Antigua. All of the cases can be traced back to an outside source.

And I guess we’ll just have to take their word there’s no community spread even though it’s clear >90% of active cases haven’t been tested or identified

  3. I am calling on the government to tell the nation the truth about the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine before they begin to use it of the citizens. We deserve to know why South Africa has suspended its use in that country and why Germany has concerns about it also.

Yes, it is cheapest of all the vaccines and can be stored aat ordinary room temperature, but why has it not being approved by the FDA. AstraZeneca may not apply for a US FDA Emergency Use Authorization until the spring. The data from their UK trial was “odd” and had one “pretty serious error” in it, a US vaccine expert said.
That data Raine was referring to came from a vaccine research trial which included more than 5,800 volunteers around the UK, South Africa, and Brazil. The results suggested that AstraZeneca’s vaccine was 62% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 infections when taken as two full-strength shots. That’s a much lower potency than both Pfizer and Moderna’s shots, which were each more than 90% effective in trials.

The AstraZeneca trial also included at least one big mistake. A subset of trial participants under 55 years old were accidentally administered a half-dose first shot, followed by a full-strength second jab.

    • If we’re being completely honest Antigua should be buying vaccines from Cuba when they are ready.

Or Novavax, which is a protein subunit vaccine or even Sinovax which is an inactivated virus vaccine.

Moderna, Pfizer are MRNA “vaccines” and AZ is an adenovirus vector vaccine. All 3 of those are brand new technologies which have never been used to treat an illness. And AZ looks the sketchiest of the 3; Moderna looks like the best of the 3.

Still I would rather go with vaccine types that have well established safety data over decades like protein subunit and inactivated virus vaccines.

    • The Sputnik V vaccine from Russia seems to be the best so far. No reported side effects, it doesn’t need to be stored at subzero temperatures and it cost a pit less than all the other approved vaccines. Why didnt Antigua choose this option?

  4. PM Browne,

There must be a lockdown, and NOW.

Do not, not any more, put the economy over the heath of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

    • Unless he for once this past year decides to act intelligently and swiftly to protect citizens, he will have destroyed the health of the nation AND destroyed the nation economically.

Because no one is going to want to come to an island full of disease. So tourism will be over as well.

It’s already in steep decline and airline ticket prices have fallen from about 1500 USD one way to less than 200 USD one way in the last 2 weeks.

  5. Gaston is going to wait until we are all DEAD NF before he decides that our health is more important than tourism. I understand that people need work but we cannot work if we are sick, on a ventilator or dead!! Lockdown for 3 weeks now and let us try and reset the covid numbers. Please jack!

  6. It seems that the Barbuda Council is more concerned about the health of the people than the Antigua Cabinet. At least Barbuda is locking down for a period to try and stem the covid cases while Gaston is only concerned about tourist numbers and the economy. But he has had his top secret, in the dark of the night, Moderna shot now so he good. Maybe it will take one of his Cabinet colleagues dropping down from Covid before he decides it is time to lockdown for a few weeks?

  7. Dictator and traitor Gaston only cares about himself. Notice how he ran off and got the vaccine without telling anyone and he gets a different vaccine than the one that is coming here.

Keep voting for this POS. Antigua will be past the point of no return.

    • Antiguan Citizen your on point but your a little bit diplomatic with POS . For those that didn’t understand it means ” piece of shit ” and that’s being nice ! Why he’s garbage because of putting the health of everyone at risk while he got his shot which no one can confirm but him . If you kill once and got away with it you’ll have no prob doing it again . Wicked people that did that to him and just as wicked those that are not doing enough to capture these evil killers.

  8. Either we lock down preemptively or we are forced to lockdown when we fully lose control and get blacklisted as very high risk

  9. The clown prime minister was on his facebook page tonight talking about he's not closing the border because the problem isn't the tourists but the locals The clown prime minister was on his facebook page tonight talking about he's not closing the border because the problem isn't the tourists but the locals

COVID came to Antigua from the outside through the wide open borders that he failed to protect

And now he’s blaming Antiguan citizens for his deadly mistakes that are putting you all at risk.

I’m not an Antiguan and I can’t say that the opposition party is any better, but you’d have to be crazy – completely out of your mind – to support this guy at this point.

He’s not going to close the borders. The borders will close themselves when no one wants to come to an island full of disease.

    • I’m Àntiguan but live overseas and follow ànd watch with disgust as the Nation lives is being HELD FOR RANSOM TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER AT THE BORDER BY Gaston . My family was involved in the early days of ALP . I’m not color blind red is not the only color I can see . Don’t hold your breath Àntiguans today just lay down and play dead as with most things . They talk big but don’t do crap then attack when the leaders faults is pointed out .They sit on their fat ass even when something potentially threatens their love ones and their very lives many find time to be political .

      • Not an Antiguan and watching from overseas for months how the leaders of Antigua have botched the pandemic response.

And now they are blaming citizens for the failures of the government.

        How could anyone support this?

  10. There are some countries that are more poor then antigua and they close there border .why the government is not closing the border?what is going on I do not understand.

  11. Maybe the more people that get sick is the more money The government will get I am just saying because I do not understand why they will not close the country.

  12. Govt has done a terrible job? Why do we have only 350 cases while St Lucia has 2,000 cases with 19 deaths, Bdos has 1,800, St. Vincent has 1,300, Jamaica 17,700 etc. I agree Jamaica is much larger but if you can write then you should understand basic proportionality.

The next crap is that Antigua doesn’t test as much, or is lying or so they must be burying all these Covid dead bodies in a mass grave somewhere?

I guess the next thing is that “the chicken has come home to roost” EIGHT MONTHS after opening the borders? I must say that is one slow ass chicken…..

    • Antigua is testing as few people as possible and still every batch comes back with cases.

The true number is probably in the thousands.

Yes Antigua has done a disastrous and immoral job that should end with several cabinet members and the PM enjoying some protein time for their crimes of lying, hiding cases, failure to protect citizens and ultimately the deaths the have and will cause.

  13. If you notice Montserrat had no coronavirus for a long time as soon as they get the vaccine they got five cases I do not understand. Somebody please say something we need to understand.

  14. Covid is like Aids….You cant catch it unless you go around not protecting yourself. Stop the blame game and accept your own inaction for contracting covid and stop blaming government.

    • Even wearing an N95 mask is not 100% effective and you can’t get those anywhere on island.

People who have to work and/or take public transport have no say in who they come in contact with. Nor do people who have to go to the supermarket or bank or pharmacy or doctor’s office or post office etc.

It was the job of the government to protect citizens by protecting the border. Instead they let in thousands of people from high COVID areas with no restrictions.

And then to add insult to injury the 🤡 PM and his minions turn around and blame citizens for his failures, blame people for getting sick or dying when all of it is on the PM

He still will not close the borders and protect the citizens

    • Remember those very words (which is the only words you ever write) if you or your love ones get it . When your love one is gasping just to take one breath and the ventilator is not enough for the inevitable . look them in the eyes tell them those words . Then again you wouldn’t be able to even say goodbye at their bedside .

  15. Either Antigua was underreporting the number of cases in the past or may be some jumbie is going around spreading the virus through the air in the Caribbean. Notice how the numbers are exponentially increasing in the Caribbean?

    • Every country that has not taken the threat seriously has seen exponential growth of infections

Antigua has been undertesting since March so of course most cases aren’t identified

We’ve just reached critical mass at this point. There are so many infected people in Antigua – thousands – that the little testing they are doing is going to find active cases in each batch

Imagine an iceberg. Most of it is underwater. The visible tip is only a small part of the humongous iceberg.

The tested folks are only the small tip of the iceberg. There are massive numbers of infected people (underwater so to speak) that you cannot see but they are spreading disease every day to other folks.

This is what happens when thousands upon thousands of people from Covid-19 hotspots are allowed into a country with no restrictions on their behavior or movements.

Be very clear. This is a result of the negligence of your government.

Shame on them for failing to protect the country and now turning around and blaming it on citizens who have no choice or power in the matter.
