$30K Fine on Man with Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition

4

In Antigua and Barbuda, a man has been fined $30,000 for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Josh Lucien, aged 26, admitted guilt for having 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a Ruger SR9c 9mm pistol without a proper license.

The charges arose when officers from the Criminal Investigations Department discovered the concealed items during a search of Lucien’s vehicle in the Ottos area.

Lucien, previously imprisoned for aggravated robbery, explained he found the weapon while cleaning a gutter near an abandoned house.

Despite a plea for leniency due to impending fatherhood, Magistrate Dexter Wason imposed the $30K fine – $20,000 for the firearm and $10,000 for the ammunition.(Observer)

  1. This the kind of softness on crime that I’m talking about..the man has a history of violence, and now you found him with an illegal gun, and that’s the best you can come up with,a fine?

This softness on illegal guns will not help the amnesty that was put in place. If this is the kind of soft message this judicial system of Antigua is sending, there is no way in hell these criminals are going to turn in their illegal guns, no way.

It’s time for Antigua to raise the illegal gun possession crime, from being a misdemeanor to and felony, with a mandatory prison sentence of up to 15yrs.
I’m sorry, but this is the only way to get guns off the streets. When you’re looking at 15yrs in jail, you will definitely think twice about carrying around an illegal gun.

We just witness here in Florida where a fool who hates black people, just walked into a store and just killed three people, then turn killed himself.
There is nothing good about violence, and walking around with a illegal gun only brings harm to the general public.
So send a strong message GOA, please.

See, this is where this Government is failing, they are afraid of criminals, while hard working people are afraid to even go out at nights.

But I continue to hold my breath with this current administration we have here in Antigua. Smdh.
