Head of the traffic department, Assistant Superintendent Rodney Ellis says  police will charge the driver who hit a pedestrian on Market Street on April 1, 2021.

The CCTV footage was released on Antigua News Room over the weekend.

It shows the moment a female pedestrian attempts to cross the street in slow-moving traffic and  a Suzuki Grand Vitara suddenly speeds up, slamming the woman into a silver car.

Ellis says the 21-year-old female driver is facing a charge of Careless Driving.

  1. Take it easy, male or female, we know them streets ain’t easy, strange things happen on those streets, we all had or moment and near misses, some folks are scared to death of driving. Hope they all recover from this trauma, sending prayers.

    • DON’T ASK POLICE: ASK LAWYER AND HIGH COURT REGISTRAR

      This is a question best put to the darn ‘…Lawyer Representing the Driver’ that, to all intents and purposes to;

      (i) ‘…Have dismissed the ‘Verdict’ of the Coroner Jury’s finding of Culpability;

      (ii) ….Delay the criminal proceedings; for ‘Causing Death By Dangerous Driving;

      (iii) …With serious implications for ‘…Perverting the Course of Justice;’ and

      (iv) …Better yet, ask the ‘…Registrar of the High Court of Justice’ why there has been no
      fixture for hearing.’
      made for a hearing.

  3. Accidents happens. That is not careless driving in my view. The driver perhpas accidently hit the gas pedal instead of the break. The other they a driver became unwell and hit many pedestrians and vendors. That too is not careless driving.
    The driver that hit Andrea Hughes and went home to get his father that is a careless driver. Who knows if he had attended to her then and called the police she might have been alive. Who knows. But that case the police cannot bring charges up to now.
