St Kitts and Nevis goes into lockdown for 14 days starting 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, as COVID-19 cases mount.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris during a national broadcast.

All public servants will be required to work remotely, except as directed by the Cabinet Secretary.

All gaming establishments will be closed during the lockdown and there will be “absolutely no mass events.”

Beaches are to be used for exercise only and there will be no street vending during the two weeks. In-person dining will also be prohibited at restaurants during the period, but take-out and delivery services will be permitted.

Prime Minister Harris announced a curfew between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day during the lockdown as he urged people to stay at home.

He says the lockdown is being implemented to break the cycle of transmission.
