1800+ Employees Will Be Receiving Food Packages In Advance Of The Holiday Weekend

2

Over 1800 employees will this week be receiving care packages of food items all courtesy of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association/ABHTA and the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union/ABWU.

Funding of this project was made possible from the ABWU’s Welfare Fund and the ABHTA Tourism Development Fund.  It is through the $1/day Tourism Development Fund contributed from Blue Waters Resort, Curtain Bluff, Galley Bay Resort & Spa, Hermitage Bay, Jumby Bay, Siboney Beach Club and Sugar Ridge that the ABHTA is able to make such a contribution.

Vernon A. Jeffers, Snr, Chairman of the ABHTA stated that “At the end of March we began registration of employees within the resorts, in an effort to fully understand the individuals who would immediately be in need. Registration was paused due to the Government issued lockdown however, we were able to work with the Human Resource Managers of the properties to gather the data we needed to commence this project. Staff within our member properties were asked to register if they wanted to receive a care package. Although we will not be reaching all persons within the sector, we are pleased to be in a position to deliver relief to so many persons.

This week is a busy one for both of our organizations.  In addition to delivering over 1,800 food packages, on April 30, 400 employees will also be receiving another round of payment from their Thrift Fund” remarked Mr. David Massiah, General Secretary of the ABWU. He further stated that “We are only at the beginning of what will be a very long road to recovery and we are pleased to be playing our part at this stage of the pandemic, in easing the burden being placed on so many persons.”

Employees who qualified for this round of distribution must have met the following criteria – employees whose employers are members of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association. Employees currently on lay-off. Employees who would have registered at the ABWU office up to March 31, 2020. Employees whose Human Resource Departments would have submitted and verified their layoff status to the ABHTA on or before April 24, 2020

  1. Thank you

The controllers of the main industry can only afford care package???My gosh

How will that affect the house rent, mortgage, car loans, the fast cash etc……

The service charge was abused. It was to be a dedicated fund for the workers, but end up paying for replacement glass, flat ware, etc. The unsuspecting staff got the remainder because there is no way for them to know they were deceived.

Give generously to the people that gave you multiple millions in profit.
