Maria Browne, Housing Minister

Cabinet Notes:

The Minister of Lands and Housing announced that 12 homes out of a planned 400 homes, at Oliver’s, are nearly completed. All the homes in phase 1 of the project have already been assigned to new homeowners.

Over 3,000 applications were submitted for this housing project.

More homes are to be constructed but there is a shortage of skilled building professionals who have reportedly moved on to join the PLH project in Barbuda.

A skill-shortage is being experienced in the booming construction industry.

  1. The Housing Minister is again “bending” the truth slightly about the shortage of skilled building professionals in Antigua.

I have had no problems whatsoever obtaining them in the last 12-18 months on the island for a number of properties (including new-builds and restorations), and as recently as a few weeks ago.

Whenever I need small or large scale projects/jobs done correctly, whether in Antigua or the UK, I get the right skilled professionals people in to do the work, and also give them fair warning of dates and timescales to complete – why can’t Maria Browne the Minister for Housing do the same?

THIS IS WHY NEPOTISM CAN NEVER WORK, ESPECIALLY IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR!!!

Seems like she loves her title, but cannot do the job she’s paid to do …

    • You must be very special. Cause the entire country is experiencing this except you. What a man or woman.
Even Senator Should who build many homes talks about it. Almost all the skilled labour is in Barbuda.

      • I’m not special @ From The Sideline, I know how to get things done, and I’ve applied myself and worked very hard to get where I am today.

I’VE NEVER BEEN HANDED ANY HIGH PROFILE POSITIONS IN MY LIFE, AND I’VE BENEFITED BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING – UNLIKE MRS MARIA BROWNE …

        • I agree! The First Lady should not also be Housing Minister. Simple. If You need to explain why then you are a butterfly trying to explain wings to a caterpillar.

      • No wonder the government likes building houses as all of them cashing in. I am sure when Shoul builds houses for the government he gets paid unlike other contractors.

      • What has become of the Company from Massachusetts. That was suppose to build those houses in Mac Pond, All Saints.

    • No that is part of the 2000 homes in e years.
And that child is the First Lady. The Wife of the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and mother of two beautiful children.
Maria Vanessa Bird-Browne (born 1991) is a politician in Antigua and Barbuda. She was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for St. John’s Rural East in the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda in 2018, becoming the youngest lawmaker in the country and the youngest female member of parliament across the Commonwealth. She is the country’s minister for housing, lands, and urban renewal.

      • And;She husband barn in 1967. What a disparity….14 long years. So Sideline when did the courting start. Since your a historian of all things.

        Speak UP!!

      • @From The Sideline…

Son of Mami_Wata and Papa_Elegba can tell you’re a #fanatic when it comes to the game of politricks and who you support. Hey, that’s so cool, since even George Wallace to Donald Trump to Chuckee have their fan base.

        A couple of things…
A…recently, the ABLP have being touting the necessity of tertiary education(“Serpent” Watts came under scrutiny), yet, here is Maria Bird-Browne who had no such learning when she became the youngest member of the Parliament, yet, she’s handed one of, if not the most important Ministry’s which controls the Nation.
Plain and simple, she had and still have a #handler who pulls her strings.

B…be mindful and careful, that housing bubbles do burst in the Construction Industry which always, always, always adjust itself with its own highs and lows.

C…Besides tourism, the weak offshore banking sector, some aspects of Health Tourism with a sprinkling of agricultural products here and there, what Industry(s) will be able to absorb most of the growing population especially the youths?

The Nation is growing yes; but at the same time, there seems to be a widening of the gap between the rich and poor!
The Middle Class is like it’s approaching #death, as they live in #DEBT waiting to pay penance for being DEAD.

D…the Trickle Down Method does nothing, to ease nor eliminate the Hand To Mouth living of most of the poor in the Nation!

Why do that to the Hon Maria Vanessa Bird-Browne! Everyone knows that Maria Vanessa Bird-Browne graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology before being elected to Parliament! That she obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree after becoming an MP and Minister has been publicized and is well known!

Higher education has a uniquely important role in resolving the persistent CREDENTIALED skills shortage in Antigua and Barbuda by producing qualified graduates and postgraduates and by generating research and innovation! Raising education and skills levels are crucial not only for increasing workforce productivity, but also for enhancing the innovative capacity of the economy and facilitating the absorption and diffusion of new technology! The interaction of these factors, along with the quality of education, are what propel economic growth!

Why undermine your carefully crafted positive arguments in B, C & D by supporting the slithery serpent who has decided to not attain any level of tertiary education much less engage in the noble vocation of sustainable farming for food security!

          • @John French II…
This son of Mami_Wata and Papa_Elegba who’ve come to realize, that at each and every #crossroad, there resides a #SWASTIKA which to some is the most evil symbol in HUEmanity and will murder/assassinate me for revealing this truth.

Speaking of assassination, no such thing is being done to the character of Maria Browne-Bird.
So, she got some learning in psychology as to how to deal with egos, personalities, ids etc,, got selected to sit in the Parliament and whilst there she obtained several more courses and converted this psychology degree into a law degree. Great!
However, #EXPERIENCE, #Xperience, #experience, #wisdom, #WIZdom matters, and Maria Bird-Browne had no such experience when she was gifted the Rural East Constituency to manage the Nation’s lands, Major Construction Projects etc., plain and simple.

Regardless of who’s educated, experienced, qualified to manage the Nation’s affairs, the NATION now SCREAMS, begs, for #INDEPENDENT FORENSIC AUDITING, of ALL GOVERNMENT/public agencies and departments, #cold cases to current cases.

The treasury MUST be audited like a Non-Profit. One can smell the #crookedness, by opening their eyes!

        • Jumbe.. as usual you chatting rubbish. The info re her academics is available simply via a Google search. She long had a first degree before entering politics. In addition she had experience running a non governmental association. Clearly u like you she has done more than simply run your mouth how th failed

          • @Tenman…Cornell Hughes, the “rubbish” which you’re snelling is coming from the management of our resources, by incompetent individuals. Simply because Maria learnt legalese, she should automatically become a judge on the CCJ? This is the kind of “rubbish” which ass kissers like you support.

Now, since Maria Bird-Browne has learnt some legalese, she must be familiar with the term ‘eminent domain;” and since, she’s being touted as a political prodigy, here’s some “rubbish” for her to clean up. The term National Park must mean that exactly that, as it pertains to our beaches(public access, public parking and restrooms). The government must use “eminent domain” to redesign and manage these areas now encroached upon by investors. This is the kind of “rubbish” which needs addressing and correcting.
An example of this kind of “rubbish” is what is happening at Long Bay.

I see, that the developer at Devils Bridge have erected four(4) latrines/shit houses and are passing them off as Vendor Boots which will end up in Willikies after the next Category Six(6) Hurricane. In the mean time, the developers have build dozens of structures from the limestone quarry which they got for free more than likely. This is the kind of “rubbish” and shit which Maria Bird-Browne must address and clean up, Mr. Political_Prostitute!

            Jumbee_Picknee

          • Mr. Chameleon aka Tenman aka Cornell Hughes, the business model which you keep harping on, as being the shortest is alive and well in Antigua.
            A…Gaston Browne got into #Farming!
B…The Government became the biggest weed, marijuana dealer in Antigua.
            C…A Cannabis Dispensary is opened.

So, Cornel Hughes, tell the World where did my business model failed. Lest you forget, bitches like you were vehemently opposed to legalising marijuana and general farming with all sorts of excuses from lack of water, to being unprofitable. The debates from CARIBARENA are archived, so put your money where your fallacies about me reside.

Bitch you don’t know me Vere Cornwall Edwards. I smelt the S.H.I.T. on your breath from the first time you opened your
Mouth in front of me in public.

Just so you know, that S.H.I.T. is Some High Intensity Trainning that you got during your indoctrination to become a #Political Ass_Kissah and #Political_Prostitute.

            Jumbee_Picknee!

      • She is a member of parliament because of her husband’s greed to control all of the people’s assets and the people’s dumbness to elect her in the first place. Gaston talks about experience, what did she bring to the government? Antigua will never truly develop as a lot of the citizens need to go back to the school of common sense.

      • But wait! Are you Gaston Browne hiding under the alias of From The Sideline?

You seem very protective of Maria Vanessa Bird-Browne (born 1991)?

IF AH SO, I’LL LIGHTEN UP ON HER POLITICAL WEAKNESSES AS HOUSING MINISTER … JUST LET ME KNOW BOSS 🤣🤣🤣

      • Antigua and Barbuda do not have a First Lady. She,like those before her are the wives of the Prime Ministers. The wife of the President of the United States is known as the First Lady. Are you too lob foo cag.

  2. This woman is not capable of doing the job she has. I see her as a very dishonest person who is in no way better than her husband and is accepting money under false pretenses. She is very much aware that she was placed in that Ministry so that her husband would continue to manage her portfolios. All he knows is land, housing and more land. He has no interest in our education, social lives or the things that are important to everyday people. Listen to him talk. It is land, big money, hotels, housing, land and more land. Nothing about the little money things that keep the ordinary people going.
When she drops our business and goes abroad with her husband, she too is aware that she did not earn the pay packet that she collects at the end of the month, plus all the other board fees.
Isn’t that dishonesty? I have a family to feed, a grandmother who my wife and I thought would help out with things with the pension she was supposed to bring in monthly, but does not. I am well educated and have a government job that pays very poorly. I work very hard to put food on the table and mind my family. Yet I have to watch this pretender, this child-woman, this ignoramus collect a large pay day while my family could barely scrape out a living.
Is this right? No way. Just like with America and Trump Antiguans have come to accept this foolishness as normal. We have no backbone and none of us can tell this pretender that she is hurting us all with her greed, simplemindedness and blindly following her husband and his wicked ways. When I watch my children go without things they should have, I curse the two of them. When I hear how much money she collects per month for doing nothing, I curse the two of them. The sins of the parents are visited on their children. I don’t wish them any thing because they are innocent. But my children should be living well just like their children.
I pray I will live to see them brought low.

    • Well said @ Wonder, ABLP’S self-enrichment schemes, jobs for the boys (and girls) including nepotism continues to flourish, to the detriment of the citizens and indigenous population.

We deserve so much better from our current government.

A third term of the ABLP would be absolutely disastrous for Antigua.

      OUT, OUT … OUT!

    • Stop blaming others for your failure in life. Find out what your doing wrong and correct it. Remember that the people elected the Hon Maria Browne in a fair elections.

  3. 3000 applicants? What system does the govt have in place to prevent persons to use these houses as an investment rather than meeting a residential need?

    • My thoughts exactly. That 3000 number seems exaggerated, probably in order to facilitate a land grab by certain persons. The government should ensure that these homes first go to persons who are looking to actually live there.

  4. Nether is she or the manager Cornilus are capable. He is collecting money left right and center. All corruption.

    • @John French : Are women politicians in Antigua above reproach? Politics is a dirty game without any rules. Ask your comrade in the Red Army,Gaston Stache Browne. If Maria Browne cannot stand the heat. Tell her and all others get the heck out of the political kitchen.

  6. Look a bitterness on both sides of the fence… Anyhow, after being in a meeting a few days ago… It was noted that the housing project is well overbooked…
