$1,000 Fine for Driver in Distracted Driving Case

George Marryfield, 23, of Liberta, has been fined $1,000 for driving without due care and attention after admitting to following too closely and rear-ending another vehicle.

The incident occurred on August 1 last year on Corn Alley.

Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason, concerned about the rise of distracted driving, questioned Marryfield’s attentiveness at the time of the accident.

Although Marryfield denied using his cell phone, he acknowledged that he was traveling too close behind the complainant.

He has 30 days to pay the fine or face 30 days in prison.
