Chief Health Inspector Sharon Martin said 10 establishments were denied permission to re-open since they failed to meet health standards.
The government recently gave the nod for most businesses to resume operations as the country scaled back restrictions that were put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
However, the establishments must first be inspected and certified by the Central Board of Health (CBH).
“We would have inspected 15 gyms, 20 casinos, 126 bars, 84 barbershops, 212 beauty salons, 70 restaurants, tour companies, 8, churches, 45, Martin said on state media.
The Chief Health Inspector revealed those who failed had poor sanitary practices such as untidy facilities and refusal to install handwashing stations.
“Can you imagine in this COVID time, we are trying to promote frequent handwashing and a business establishment is refusing to set up a handwashing station? Those are some of the challenges that we face when we go out to some of them”, she lamented.
“I must give kudos to the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner Wade, who would have aided us in this regard to close these places”, Martin added.
She said her department will conduct random follow-up visits and businesses will have their certification revoked if they do not consistently practice the safety protocols.

Wonderful to see a dedicated civil servant working…doing what she is being paid by the tax payers to do. Do your duties without fear or favor, Ms. Martin. He who sees all things will reward you richly.
This is the way civil servants should do their work. Do not allow politrickians to control your mind. You have a work description given to you that adheres to the civil regulations of the nation….then JUST FOLLOW IT. Do not bow to the dictates of your MISLEADERS. Do Not be corrupted by their schemes.
When the businesses and all others who should operate in the interest of the people of the nation; do not follow stipulated protocols….then SHUT THEM DOWN AND PUBLISH THE BUSINESSES’ NAMES ALSO….OR TAG THEIR PREMISES.

Well to be honest I don’t know if am the only one noticing that the Chinese establishments have none of the above not even wearing mask and they always open .guest rules don’t apply to them

Well when Sharon Martin starts wearing a mask properly, I’ll listen to her judgement. So far all I’ve seen from her is that she dont respect her owm protocols. Seen her on TV, no mask, no social distancing, then starts wearing a useless face shield instead of mask, just dumb and shows a complete lack of understanding of why we need to wear masks.If the chief health inspector cant get used to a mask, why is anybody else going to?
