Zonique Charles Wins Gold in Javelin — Antigua and Barbuda’s Second CARIFTA Games Champion
Zonique Charles delivered another golden moment for Team Antigua and Barbuda, capturing Gold in the Girls Under-17 Javelin at the 2025 CARIFTA Games. Her victory marks the nation’s second Gold medal in track and field and adds to a growing list of exceptional performances from Antiguan athletes.
Minister of Sports Daryll Matthew congratulated Zonique on her achievement, calling her the U17 Girls Javelin Champion and celebrating her as a source of national pride. 🇦🇬👏
Earlier at the Games, Tyra Fenton struck Gold in the Girls U17 400m (53.93s), while Geolyna “GG” Dowdie claimed Silver in the Girls U20 100m and Raniqúe Richards earned Bronze in the U17 category — underscoring a strong showing from Antigua and Barbuda in athletics.
Meanwhile, at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Trinidad, Ellie Shaw, 2023 Junior Sportswoman of the Year, secured Silver in the Girls 15–17 200m Breaststroke. Alessandro Bazoni took Bronze in the Boys 11–12 100m Butterfly, and Ethan Stubbs-Green added another Bronze in the Boys 15–17 100m Butterfly — bringing the swim team’s day one medal total to four.
With medals now coming from both track and pool, Antigua and Barbuda continues to make a powerful impression across CARIFTA 2025. 🇦🇬🔥

Congratulation Ms Charles, that’s what am talking bout. It’s all about bettering your best and push for a new PB when you compete in these competitions and in doing so medals will eventually come. I’ve been asking for more field participation, instead of just track and quickly we captured two medals Shot put and javelin. Congratulations to our females who outshines our males in every way, heart, focus, discipline and determination.
The reason JA always come out on top medal wise it’s because they are the only country that have athletes competing in every category, in every event you must see one or two JA flag. Just finished watching the high jump and there we have two JA females competing amongst themselves. Where are our High jumpers, Pole falters, Triple/ long jumpers? and I know we can throw a disc. I would also wish to see our speedsters competing in both 100m and 200m, instead of just the 100m, a mean all the greats do.
Go antigua good work guys we all proud of you
