Zamir O’Garro, Charged in Arthur James Murder, Dies While on Remand

Zamir O’Garro, one of three men charged with the murder of Arthur James, died at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre on Tuesday, nearly three years after being remanded in custody.

O’Garro reportedly became ill while in custody on Friday and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was said to be conscious and speaking during transport but was later placed on life support. He died early Tuesday.

O’Garro had been on remand since 2021 in connection with James’ disappearance in October of that year. Days after James was reported missing, a burnt-out vehicle containing charred human remains was found in the Freetown and Willoughby Bay area. Forensic tests later confirmed the remains were those of James.

O’Garro was charged alongside his brother, Obasic O’Garro, and their cousin, Uroy Joseph, all from Liberta. Obasic O’Garro died on February 7, 2024, after suffering health complications, including kidney problems.

  9. Antigua & Barbuda is definitely in need of thorough forensic investigations from the collection of evidences, the autopsies and hands on investigations by those trained in homicides. Since obeah is so strong then all of these crooks and criminals from the parliament, the churches, businesses to the every day Joe blow would all be dead and pushing up grass, weeds and flowers.

  10. What about recognizing going our prison is a death sentence. That place is inhumane. Yes you have murderers and some of us may not be sympathetic when we hear someone is held in that place for murder. What about those that a wrongly held, innocent and eventually will be genuinely innocent innocent. Remember the school boy from Clare Hall , that was held there because someone said that they saw him with a gun, which was never found although no was including him was on lock down and the school thoroughly searched. Remember the kid that died on remand while sent on remand and languishing until he died or was murdered while waiting on this stup case that should have tried the same day. The lazy magistrates and poorly managed system for no reason out of cases for years. The English police raper is housed at the navy base , while innocent young men of those on minor offenses that should be given station bail are in prison and remand and dying.
    What type of health care is afforded to those incarcerated. Jesus said Remember when I was in prison you visited me not. Lord when have I seen you in prison. His answer- what you have done to the least of your brothers you have done unto me.

  11. His death didn’t surprised me. I know this would happen no matter how long it takes. Arthur James family by mother are Dominicans and his death would never pass so. Two brothers involved in the murder are now dead. One more. If he didn’t play any major role in Arthur’s death, he safe.. Zamir Ogaro and his brothers already killed many people in this country. This time around they kill the wrong person. On the other hand, Arthur James was of the same character. Karma is definitely real.

  17. Wow… One way or another, God doesn’t sleep. Either that “cuss pan dem” took hold, someone poisoned Zamir, or he had a serious illness we don’t know about… Either way, this is very interesting, that the brothers died two years apart. The cousin better make peace with God, in case he’s next.
