Young Voices Take Centre Stage for UWI Five Islands Junior Calypso Monarch

1

The spotlight will shine on young calypsonians tonight as the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus hosts its Junior Calypso Monarch competition.

Aspiring artistes in two age categories—5 to 12 and 13 to 19—will deliver original songs exploring issues such as crime, violence, peace, and patriotism.

Among the hopefuls are those looking to dethrone Faith Edwards, who made a winning debut last year as “Princess Faith” with her patriotic anthem Young Soldier, securing the crown in the 5-12 division.
