St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Friday, 25 July 2025
The Antigua and Barbuda police have arrested and charged 32-year-old Shalom Bailey of Yorks in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Kevin Vaceannie, and the attempted murder of Darien Rover of Cassada Gardens.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 15 May 2024, at the Asylum Night Club Bar and Restaurant on Independence Drive. It is alleged that Bailey shot both men before fleeing the scene.

Both victims were transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where Vaceannie was later pronounced dead. Rover received medical treatment for his injuries.
Following extensive investigations by the police, Bailey was arrested and formally charged with Murder and Attempted Murder. He is expected to appear before the court today.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. Members of the public are urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by sharing any information that can assist in ongoing investigations.

Just give him life in dey, he nah serve no purpose.
Not here to argue innocence or guilt that’s for the courts. But I do find it mighty convenient that this charge just surfaced now, more than a year after the shooting at Asylum and so soon after Shalom Bailey was acquitted in another murder case.
Wasn’t this incident investigated back in 2024?
Was evidence not available then?
Or did something conveniently “resurface” just in time to keep him in the system?
I’m asking, respectfully but directly why the delay?
If the police had this case in hand all along, what caused the holdup in pressing charges? And if this is based on new evidence, the public deserves clarity not coincidence.
Again, I’m not defending anyone. I’m just tired of the see-saw justice system. Either we have a solid case, or we have convenient timing. But the people watching aren’t blind.
Not much to be said because you’ve said it all. This needs clarity and Shalom needs justice.
Who is you to say he serves no purpose. Somebody Fu u might end up in a situation and Dem ago get lost inna jail. Could be by a motor vehicle accident or just by defending themselves. Karma careful what u wish for others
Good job officers. As far as am aware there’s no time limit on when a person can be charged for a capital offense. Why do we think the police need to update the public on everything they do the investigation is ongoing plain and simple.
Concerned Young Citizen, I have absolutely no desire to defend the police as they must always be held to account. However, you must know investigations are not and cannot be an overnight thing! Sometimes these things take years, with the disovery of new evidence, so like you not to discuss about guilt or innocent, but sufficient evidence to sustain a prosecution then he should be charge.
If and when found guilty, lock this animal up and throw away the key!
Last week a 93 year old man got charged in England for a murder 60 years ago so what’s the big deal with a year after and charging Shalom
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda deserves recognition for its recent success in apprehending suspects in a violent crime. This demonstrates that, when acted upon with diligence and urgency, justice can indeed be served. We encourage the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement and providing information that supports ongoing investigations.
However, it would be deeply irresponsible not to confront the glaring and unacceptable failure in the case of Richard Whinfield, a resident of Swetes Village who was brutally murdered on February 2nd, 2025. More than five months have passed, and no one has been held accountable, despite the availability of CCTV footage—a resource that should have significantly aided the investigation.
This inaction represents a shameful failure of duty by the police and has eroded public trust in the very institution tasked with protecting us. The silence, delay, and apparent lack of urgency are not just disappointing—they are a disservice to justice and a slap in the face to the grieving family and community.
We demand transparency. We demand action. And above all, we demand justice—not at the police’s convenience, but as a matter of principle and duty. The life of Richard Whinfield mattered. His death cannot be ignored or left to gather dust in an unresolved case file.
The people of Antigua and Barbuda will not forget, and they will not be silent.
