Construction has commenced on long-overdue bathroom facilities at YASCO Sports Complex in Antigua and Barbuda, addressing a longstanding concern for athletes and spectators.

The Ministry of Housing and Works, through the National Housing & Urban Renewal Development Company (NHURDC), is leading the project, which aims to provide functional and hygienic amenities at the national sporting venue.

Access to proper bathroom facilities has been a persistent issue at YASCO, despite the high volume of sporting events and school activities hosted there.

Years of incomplete works under previous administrations left the site without essential services, prompting fresh calls for intervention.

In a statement, Minister of Housing and Works Maria Browne said the development reflects the government’s renewed commitment to public infrastructure and the well-being of all who use the venue.

“Access to proper bathroom facilities is a basic yet essential part of any national sporting venue, ensuring comfort, hygiene, and dignity for both athletes and spectators,” she said.

Browne extended her thanks to the NHURDC team for their swift response and dedication as the works progress.

The project is part of wider efforts across Antigua and Barbuda to modernise infrastructure and enhance community spaces.
