A 27-year-old woman is recovering after she was mauled by four pit bulls at a family home, just days before she was scheduled to graduate from the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.
Relatives say Shabo Nedwell was visiting the home on Saturday afternoon when the attack occurred.
According to a family member who contacted Antigua News Room, Nedwell was in the living room speaking with her uncle when the dogs rushed out from the hallway and attacked her.

“She sustained injuries on her legs, hands, and half of her lip is gone,” the relative said. “This could have been the end of her life.”
Despite her injuries, Nedwell reportedly managed to drive herself to the hospital, where she received stitches to her leg and lip. Doctors have advised that she will need reconstructive surgery once the stitches in her lip heal.
Family members say the pit bulls belong to Nedwell’s aunt, who had reportedly been warned several times about keeping the dogs inside the house. “There have been several complaints because they like to rush at people and nothing has been done,” the family member said.
The relative also alleged that after the incident, the aunt removed the dogs from the property and hid them.
Neighbors reportedly intervened to pull Nedwell out of the house during the attack.
Nedwell, who recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, had been preparing to walk the graduation stage this weekend. Her cousin said she is now unable to attend the ceremony. “She cannot walk, barely talk, she can barely eat and she is traumatized,” the family member said.
The family is calling on authorities to locate and remove the dogs to prevent further attacks. Police have not yet confirmed whether an investigation is underway.

Ain’t pit bulls illegal dogs? I saw some people have them roaming the streets with no restraint.
I can find them for you Ms Nedwell because they need to be killed.
The dogs must be euthanized. They’re not domesticated enough to live amongst people and need to be put down. I’m so very sorry this happened to the young lady! I don’t know her but I’m in the medical field and can’t even imagine the trauma she feels. I pray her recovery is swift, without infection and that the physician administered a Tdap shot, plus IM Rocephin and sent home with a Z-pack or Doxycycline and Prednisone pack for inflammation. Tramadol for pain. Praying for your recovery and congratulations on your accomplishments.
I don’t understand this like this doesn’t make sense!!
1. Why did she have to drive her own self to the hospital after such an excruciating attack?
2. Why aunty so concerned about her dogs more than family unless her dogs are her kids and not pets?
3. Why the dogs were in the house and not sectioned off from the meeting room where she knows she go have ppl in?
4. Please to charge miss lady “aunty” for negligence and third degree assault. If this leads to death then manslaughter.
5. All the dogs should be put down……
Protection by all means. This is the fear of Wadadli mad crime wave. Sorry it was a family member instead of one a them lowlife.
Very sad story. Hope the victim makes a full recovery. Those dogs should be put down
Pray you recover both mentally and physically.
Youvwere speaking to uncle when this happened. Uncle has no power over the dogs? He didn’t see them? Does he live there? Does uncle have dogs for dog fighting? Why aunty alone being blamed?
Find them and put them down.
Why uncle didn’t drive you? Can’t he drive? Is he too old?
Congratulations on your accomplishments
I have said this often before and will say it again (despite the vitriol from so called “animal lovers”) pitbulls should not be kept as pets. If you read news reports from several countries, you will realise that thus happens almost daily.
Often these digs are kept simply for bragging rights!
