An Antiguan woman has pleaded guilty to using forged cheques to obtain more than $2,000 from a wholesale business in 2022.
Jahmalier Grant admitted in court to three counts of obtaining money by false pretence, totalling $2,300, through forged cheques valued at $900, $500 and $900.
The offences took place during three separate transactions between 7 and 9 September 2022 on Lower Market Street.
Grant initially claimed an unidentified man had given her the cheques to deposit but later confessed to forging them herself. The cheques were reportedly stolen during a residential burglary in which an entire chequebook was taken.
She denied six related charges of forgery and uttering forged documents, which prosecutors agreed to drop following her guilty plea.
Sentencing is scheduled for 18 November.

Yawns…..Make her pay back the $2,300 because its unfair if she gets sentenced to prison for that amount and Harney and these big names have been stealing for years and no prison time…So I hope her punishment does not include jail time….What she did was WONG but what goes for one should go for all……
She knew what she was doing
Antigua uses British English…the work is cheque.
Who edits this website??? The amount of typos and bad grammar here is ridiculous
Maybe they using their own dictionary lol
She couldn’t just ask someone to help her?
@ Annoyed
I think ANR just want to publish the comments as they receive them and I see nothing with that to fuss about. i have made typos and corrected myself and do a resend.
This lady is wrong but I would also suggest a fine, why jail her when the big robbers involved in VEHICLE GATE get a slap on the wrist and just sent to other departments to continue robbing the country
@Annoyed.. the question here is ” compression” which is also a part of learning any language. The fact that you know to correct someone, it’s also a fact that you also “comprehend” what they were saying, so why the fuss?
We know what people are saying, and that’s the most important part..we are not here to sensor speech, now are we?
Wow, annoyed because the word was not spell the way you think it should? If you only know the history of the English language you will probably go mad instantly.
I hope they see what problem they have now created.
Actions have consequences. Hopefully, she learns from this and finds a better path forward.
That little crime you putting the woman on blast?
Stealing thousands isn’t a mistake, it’s a choice. Hope the court handles this appropriately.
