Winair expands fleet to nine aircraft, strengthening Caribbean connectivity
Regional carrier Winair has announced that its fleet has grown to nine aircraft, marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen connectivity across the Caribbean.
The airline, based in St. Maarten, now operates the largest intra-Caribbean network, serving 17 destinations with more than 30 routes. The company said the expansion reflects its commitment to keeping the region reliably connected.
Winair also acknowledged the ongoing challenges of the Atlantic hurricane season, stressing that passenger and crew safety remain its top priority. “We remain vigilant during the hurricane season,” the airline said in a statement, adding that it was “grateful to be in a strong position” to continue reliable service.

The carrier, which has been operating for nearly six decades, plays a key role in linking smaller island territories to larger regional hubs, supporting both tourism and local communities.

I’m glad to see more Caribbean airlines seeing the need to put more flights in to service the region, which was for a long time under-served. As much so that we had to pay American Eagle to keep flying. However I’m yet to see the price war to begin so that the people of the region can be the beneficiary of low flight. I remember when Caribbean Star came on the scene and dropped the prices so low that LIAT could not handle them, but nevertheless LIAT stayed afloat becase it was seupported by the governments. And governments have deep pockets. Untill Barbados and St. Vincent decided to pull the plug on LIAT. When will the rat race begin, so that we can see who is the stromgest to survive. Caribbean Airline just got it’s marching orders to be profitable in two years time or else. But that ofcours is just talk. Trinidad has too much to lose to pull the plug on itsd national airline. They will have to carry the loses.
By the way I wonder when Mia and Ralph going to give an public apology to our Prime Minister for being so bold to run with LIAT all by himself. And now they are both benefitting from LIAT 20/20. And what about the severance pay to the staff. Has the Union gone to sleep. The union that encourage them not to take the offer from the Prime Minister. Well as the saying goes, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. I hope they have learned their lesson with this Union. If not they will make the same mistake all over again. And then they’ll be use as political pawn all over again.
