WIMAC Antigua and Barbuda Launches First Maritime Essay Competition

0

The Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WIMAC) – Antigua and Barbuda Chapter has announced the launch of its inaugural Maritime Essay Competition, aimed at inspiring young people to explore the role they play in shaping a sustainable ocean future.

Open to third and fourth form students from both government and private secondary schools, the competition encourages participants to showcase their writing skills, creativity, and knowledge of the maritime world.

This year’s theme, “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity,” draws inspiration from the International Maritime Organization’s observance of World Maritime Day 2025. Students will write on the topic “Our Ocean, Our Future: How Young People Can Protect and Transform Our Marine Environment.”

Organisers say the competition is designed to encourage critical thinking about the importance of the sea and its resources, while highlighting opportunities for youth to engage in maritime sustainability.

Submissions will be judged on creativity, research, and personal insight, with full essay guidelines outlined in the competition flyer.
