Wigley George Honored for 46 Years of Service at AT&LU’s 85th Anniversary Awards Ceremony

Ambassador Wigley George, honored at the Antigua Trades and Labour Union’s 85th-anniversary awards ceremony, received a special award for his remarkable 46-year contribution to the union, including 29 years as president. Bernard DeNully, the current President, praised George’s dedication and mentorship, noting his pivotal role in shaping the union’s legacy.

George was also recognized for mentoring DeNully and other leaders. Harold Carter, the last surviving member of the 1951 strike action’s Group of 12, received an award for his historic sacrifice.

Senator Mary-Clare Hurst was honored for her leadership and accomplishments, including being the first female chairperson of the Antigua Port Authority.

The event, themed ‘Embracing the past as we create a future building on 85 years of dedication, sacrifice, and service,’ was held at People’s Place on Nugent Avenue, the ABLP headquarters.
