St. Peters By-Election Poses Test for ABLP’s Stronghold
The upcoming by-election in the St. Peters constituency is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), with political analyst Peter Wickham suggesting the party has a strong chance of reclaiming the seat.
Wickham, speaking on state media, described the election as a measure of the party’s enduring influence. He highlighted the importance of independent voters who supported the late Asot Michael, noting their decision could determine the outcome.
A loss, he remarked, would signal a significant decline in the ABLP’s dominance in the constituency, which had long been considered a party stronghold before Michael’s historic win as an independent candidate in the last general election.
“The key question is whether those independent voters will now back the ABLP or shift to the UPP. My view is that many of them were originally ABLP supporters and are likely to return,” Wickham said.
The by-election, scheduled for January 14, will see the ABLP’s Rawdon Turner and the UPP’s George Whener compete for the seat.

Frankly, UPP could have had a chance of winning, had they use strategies that shows how hortible that constituency hero, MP Asot, was treated by the ABLP. This requires social and behavioral experts that would be able to inform UPP which strategy is best to highlight the horrific treatment of MP Asot by ABLP, PM Browne, AG and even this incoming ABLP candidate failure to stand up for MP Asot.
They could have argued that negligence of the current administration, ABLP, contributed to the death of MP Asot. They were warned by me of the importance of having INSU, an intelligence and National Security Unit that is also task with protecting certain elected official but they ignore all good ideas. That is just ABLP.
The locals really need to understand the science of behaviour and society to really be able to come up with proper and ethical political strategies to win.
My research also shows it is near impossible for ABLP to win the St. Mary’s Parish South constituency without my specific researched and developed strategy. Nothing being done by ABLP will result in a win for Senator George without substantial and specific strategies. Nothing he is doing at this time is that.
The persons who look like they will lose, will lose unless the kind of scientific strategies that impact longterm, and deep thoughts and acts are utilized. Sadly, they do not spend time hiring experts in these fields. Antigua is a unique place with a large amount of the population not having an education. So, it is behavior and folkways that you need to focus a lot on when strategizing, among other things.

@Don’t get it twisted, MP Asot may be ABLP forever but the strategy would still be to get to the feelings of all of his voters to remember how he was treated by ABLP. Turning those votes for this election into a no vote or a UPP vote, even until the anger and disappointment settles. That is what UPP should have done.

Boss a party can’t go with an argument that would easily show them a hypocrite. There are persons resigning practically daily shouting that the UPP has treated them badly. The most prominent of them have verbalized how badly the UPP treated AM when they were in office. There are tapes showing UPP leadership making clear their plan to hound AM. You may wish to counter argue focus on the most recent events, but then we will have to show you the one with AM in Barbuda making it clear he is standing with ABLP and Gaston Browne

No need to predict. It’s a done deal.
You need to comprehend the folks you are dealing with. That community is only focused on their election, their people, their monent. It is highly likely that focusing on the most recent and hurtful situation for the candidate they went independent for would have the most substantial impact and would be the mostlikely to cause a change in an election. Local folks are not focusing on UPP treatment of candidates when you focus on this specific by-election. They are focused on or could be made to focus on any perceived wrong doing ABLP committed on MP Asot. That is the strength to win for UPP, in that specific constituency, if they have any chance to win. But it severely late to employ this tactic. As it requires time to fester. About 2 weeks to a month. This is the culture of Antigua.
That is the strategy that works. The strategy that would work for ABLP is to show remorse (for perceived or alleged bad treatment of MP Asot who won as an independent, mean he is an important factor for the community) and brotherhood for MP Asot, along with substantive and innovative actions in the community. But strategically, they are ahead, as default or alternate for that specific constituency.
