Lewis Says UPP Handling Internal Issues Privately as Election Nears

Member of Parliament for St. John’s Rural West, Richard Lewis, says the United Progressive Party (UPP) remains confident heading into the next general election, despite public discussion about internal tensions.

Speaking on Observer AM, Lewis acknowledged concerns about divisions within the party but insisted that such matters are being addressed internally as the election approaches.

“The perceived issues that the UPP is facing, we are dealing with our issues in-house,” Lewis said.

He added that the party is focused on maintaining unity and preparing for the upcoming vote.

“We understand that unity is strength. We understand that elections are imminent,” he said.

Lewis said internal disagreements are not unique to the UPP and should not be played out publicly.

“Every political party has its issues. The thing is, you trash them out behind closed doors, you don’t bring them to the public domain,” he said.

He emphasized that party members are working collectively to resolve concerns and present a unified front to voters.

“So whatever it is, as other political parties do, I contribute to the… thrashing out behind closed doors,” Lewis added.

The MP said he remains confident in the party’s readiness for the election, which is expected within months.

“I’m quite confident that we are putting things in place to ensure that we win the next general elections,” Lewis said.

He also argued that the governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is facing its own challenges, suggesting that the UPP’s message will resonate with voters.

“We know that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party is very unpopular, and we just have to come with the correct message to the people,” he said.

Lewis’ comments come amid heightened political activity and public debate about party cohesion, as both major parties intensify preparations for what is expected to be a closely contested general election

  1. Dealing with in-house? Privately? This must be a joke but even if it’s not, it’s far too late to be talking about that now. That horse left the UPP barn years ago.

Let’s face it, the UPP can’t help themselves from spilling the beans and talking about their internal disagreements and conflicts publicly to the media, WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, etc. and Pringle is powerless to deal with it.

This is another example of more confusing double-speak and gobbledygook from Lewis but if you read between the lines, you should understand what he really wants; to be the next leader of the UPP, sooner rather than later.

  2. this POMPOUS, SLY, ARROGANT, SELF-SEEKING COWARD is the same POWWER HUNGRY, fool who LEAKED THAT LETTER SIGNED BY THE MPs.

    Don’t be fooled people

  3. “IN HOUSE”???

All kimda LEAKED RECORDINGS of Crusader Radio hosts going around calling Lovell a “WIMP” and you call that dealing with things “in house”???

  4. In one instance you have in Pringle someone who can’t lead. In Lewis you have someone who does not have the fire to lead. I would not be surprised to learn that RL wife beats him. The man just enjoys people walking on him. Comrade Michael Joseph, will ensure we give RL what he likes but then ensure we have blood and or other medical help waiting just in case he needs it

  5. Richard Lewis allowed George “HOUSE RENT” Wehner to disrespect his wife and children at the last UPP Convention. George Wehner went up in their faces shouting “TEK DAT IN YA NENNEN” and Richard did nothing.

If a man cant stand up for his wife and children, how can he stand up for ANTIGUA ?
