Several businesses on King George IV Street in Roseau were damaged by an early morning fire Monday, forcing the temporary closure of Jolly’s Pharmacy.
Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Prosper said the blaze affected the pharmacy, an adjoining gym, a Chinese store and a bar, but firefighters were able to contain it and prevent further spread. He described the likely financial losses as significant.
Fire crews remained on site conducting mop-up operations as investigations continued. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and advised business owners to take preventive steps against future incidents.
Jolly’s Pharmacy said its Roseau branch will remain closed until further notice, while its other locations across Dominica continue normal operations. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
