Dalso Says UPP Primary Turnout Reflected Eligibility Rules, Not Weak Support

United Progressive Party candidate Kelton Dalso has defended the low voter turnout in the party’s St. George primary, saying it was the result of financial eligibility requirements rather than a lack of support within the constituency.

Speaking during a Twin Island Media Live interview, Dalso said party rules require members to be financially in good standing for a minimum period before they are eligible to vote in a primary, and that those rules were applied evenly.

He said members had been encouraged weeks in advance to regularize their status but many failed to meet the eligibility deadline, making them ineligible to cast ballots on the night of the vote.

Dalso rejected claims that the turnout reflected apathy or organizational weakness, noting that the venue was filled with supporters who were present but unable to vote because they did not meet the financial requirements.

He said responsibility for eligibility rests with individual members, adding that party rules cannot be ignored or adjusted at the last minute to accommodate those who did not comply.

Dalso argued that maintaining clear standards is necessary for internal discipline and credibility, particularly as the party seeks to strengthen its organizational structures ahead of the next general election.

He said the process demonstrated adherence to party rules and internal democracy, even when the outcome is politically inconvenient.

  1. That is a load of bull, and you know it. It was rigged for you to win.
As long as all this disregard for the members and this lack of common sense in politics continue to go on, UPP will not get back on its feet. In fact, it is on the way out. It could never come back good again because it has rogue people running the party.

They do not know that the base alone cannot put UPP in power. When a once in a while supporter go Crusader and abuse the MPs and the chairman go on the radio and tell off potential voters, what do you think would happen?

  2. @ Bullshit………

……and when Gaston call a woman the ‘village bicycle’, and say Antiguans are the cause why USA visa privilege was taken away because they overstay in the country and go and have babies and run up huge medical bills.
He would never accept responsibility for the short-comings of his administration and the ALfa Nero. What if anything the chairman might have said and misconstrued is miniscule compared to how Gaston and ABLP denegrate the people of Antigua WITH TEAR GAS.

  3. …And in the meantime ABLP supporters like @Bull shirt give Prime Minister Gaston Browne a free pass on a plethora of problem, including being transparent on financial issues, for example, by also holding the office of the Financial Minister without being held to account to the public; and you ah worry ’bout Kelton Dalso returning to the UPP (who haven’t been in office for over 12 years now)?

Another ABLP supporter who secretly echos a one-party authoritarian state for Antigua.

I’d love to know what the watching world thinks of us in regards to our politics?

    I DREAD TO THINK… 😱

You and other blue Kool Aid drinkers like you fail to understand this politics business. Gaston Browne is in power. UPP is trying, has been trying to get into power, three times now without success.
You cannot give the impression that because ALP is doing it, then nothing is wrong with UPP doing the same ‘it’. They have power. UPP wants power. That means they have to do things in a different way to take away this power from ALP.
When you propose a man for leadership to do this taking away of power and this man obviously does not have the ability to do so, what are you saying then? That he still deserves ‘WAN CHANCE’ no matter what?

That is foolishness. You all need to find your best candidate. Right now it is Harold Lovell or Richard Lewis. Lewis looks like he is not ready for all the resentment he is getting from the party hierarchy, but the word on the ground is that he will work with Lovell.
But Lovell seems to not want to offend anybody in the party who has different ideas. He needs to step forward and declare his hand for the leadership. This is his last chance. He has to show what he came back for, and nobody believes he came back to serve under Pringle and walk behind him. If that is his plan, then he needs to move on and let somebody else in.

Mr Pringle has been a fortunate man who has been in the right place at the right time. This is what explains his present political ascendancy. However, he cannot take the UPP to where it should be to take away power from Gaston Browne. To not admit that is emotional thinking. To not see that is political suicide. Unless that changes, UPP will lose again, despite all the crappy things this administration is doing.

  5. @ Facts

He will beat the ‘once turned down by Gaston fraudster Freeland’ though, and that’s a guarantee.
