Attacking Saints, Earthquake triumph in Warriors Cup
Favourites Attacking Saints lived up to their billing with a comfortable win while Earthquake withstood their opponents as the Warriors Cup 2024 kicked-off on Thursday the Mack Pond Playing Field.
Saints – newly promoted to the Premier Division this season – signaled their intentions to win the title with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Young Lions of Old Road in the opening fixture of the double-header.
Earthquake held onto an early goal to nullify Young Warriors 1-0 as they joined Saints on three points at the top of the standings.
Forward Joshua Samuel netted twice – including a penalty – to increase Saints’ advantage after Michael Stowe and Shakeem Dublin had put the home side 2-0 inside the first five minutes. Zavier Joseph scored a late consolation for Young Lions on the stroke of full-time.
Earthquake profited from Raheim Andre’s sixth-minute strike before staving-off Young Warriors’ efforts to equalize as the Fort Road side’s stalwart player/coach Arnold “Keegan” James ably marshalled their rearguard.
The Warriors Cup continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday with doubleheaders each day at the Mack Pond Playing Field.
