Residents of St. Mary’s South were treated to a heartfelt gesture of community spirit on Friday as Labour Queen delegate Amiaha James joined Senator Dwayne George and the St. Mary’s South Branch for a food drive that brought warmth, both literal and symbolic, to the constituency.

The initiative, aimed at supporting individuals and families in need, saw the distribution of traditional, home-cooked meals lovingly prepared by volunteers. The menu featured a variety of cherished local favourites including ducana, fungi, saltfish, mackerel, chop-up, and an assortment of dumplings—white, potato, and coconut.

According to organisers, the food drive was more than a charitable gesture; it was a demonstration of solidarity and care at the grassroots level.

“This was about more than just providing a hot meal,” said Senator George. “It was about connecting with our people, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and supported.”

Delegate Amiaha James echoed that sentiment, describing the experience as humbling and energising. “It was a joy to be among the people, sharing love through food and fellowship. This is what community means.”

Grateful recipients expressed appreciation for the effort, noting that the meals brought comfort and uplifted spirits in challenging times.

The organisers say the initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to address the everyday needs of constituents while fostering a culture of compassion and unity.

  1. Is that something to be complementary of or should we frown on it?
It is said, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Give him a line and you feed him for life.”
Would it not have been better to empower the people of the community rather than to exploit and broadcast their dire poverty and hunger?
What happens tomorrow when that meal is digested?
Should she sit there and die of hunger until the senator feels the need for some political mileage whenever that may be?
I remember the senator promising five hundred dollars monthly to every business owner in the constituency when he was seeking to fool them and buy their vote.
It is understandable if he failed to keep up for one or two months.
However how many of the past 24 months has he kept his promise?
Today he has an either innocent, ignorant, uneducated, vulnerable or greedy young lady posing giving a plate of food to an elderly resident.
This picture shows how deep the poverty is in the community.
Thats not something to be proud of.
Is that coming from his pocket or is it someway being extracted from the government’s treasury?
Considering that the senator was just a teacher before he had “heart surgery” can his income justify and support those plates of food?
Has he ever agitated for the road works which started when the ALP chose to use him to continue?
When will he give business owners the promised monthly aid of five hundred dollars?
Young lady, please have some common sense.
Don’t allow yourself to be used a poster girl showing how deep poveryt is in your community.

  2. You People Always Try to highlight the smallest dose of negativity in everything! It is a good move and a good look if you have nothing good to say. Read & scroll along!!! Idiot

  3. General Elections are looming overhead. How many Fridays have passed since his rejection? He’s really seeking attention and using the old folks to highlight how impoverished they are. He seems to have found some funds again. Did he turn the large bags of leaves from the Post Office into currency?
