A viral video showing what some are calling “police brutality” at V.C. Bird International Airport is causing concern among residents, while authorities remain tight-lipped about the incident.
However, police confirmed that two persons have been detained and are assisting with investigations following a public brawl at the airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The video captures a number of uniformed and plain-clothes officers attempting to detain three visitors who appeared to be resisting. It shows the officers struggling to control the situation, with at least one person being restrained on the ground.
Two women dressed in black with their heads covered and a young man were involved in the altercation. After the police officers confronted them, the male was detained, handcuffed, and led away from the immediate area. Meanwhile, onlookers in the video expressed concern about the situation and protested that one of the women was just a young girl.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the visitors had caused damage to their place of stay and were trying to leave the country before the matter could be dealt with, prompting the police to detain them.
Residents have expressed concern that police officers need more training to deal with volatile situations. Some believe that even if the visitors were wrong, the incident at the airport could negatively impact Antigua and Barbuda, which heavily relies on tourism.
The police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that no details will be disclosed to the public at this time.

Another black woman making an ass of herself. They won’t just let you go if you scream and carry on like an idiot. A wah rang wid arwe so? PSA floks, Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Comply, take the ticket pay it, or fight it in court. Don’t hold court in the street.
@Ninja observer…#wisdom!
I Dont like how this whole thing went down. But one thing for sure police handle black people different than how they deal with muzungus n Chinese. I will leave it as that until we find out the entire reason behind this but more than likely police will make up something. 3 sides to a story and we will never hear the civilian side.
The Police was too slow with diffusing the situation. Those outlaws should have been pepper sprayed, or teased.
The behaviour displayed is wholly unacceptable at our international airport, it wouldn’t have been tolerated at Gatwick, Heathrow JF Kennedy or at any international airport, why should Antigua be any different?
The Former Police Commissioner Pompey. He should be employed if he so chooses to become the Trainer of Rank and File Police Officers. He should begin at the Police Academy into their street patrols. He should be teaching them the intricacies of the Laws of the land as it pertains to carrying out their daily duties.He should be imparting his knowledge to the Police Force as a whole.
