Two Hispanic women and another identified as Jamaican are facing charges of assault, battery and disorderly conduct after a brawl in St. John’s this afternoon.

The confrontation occurred on Lower Redcliffe Street when the two Hispanic women were attempting to cross the street.

The driver did not yield and according to an eyewitness, the Spanish speakers uttered some words in their native tongue accompanied by hand gestures.

Offended by their action, a Jamaican speaking her native patois existed her vehicle and an argument ensued.

It resulted in the Jamaican slapping one of the Hispanic women across the face and the victim retaliating by sending a glass bottle in the direction of the woman.

Police officers who were nearby intervened and according to a source familiar with legal proceedings, those involved could face charges.
