Codrington, Barbuda – The anticipated opening of Barbuda’s new landing strip and terminal, scheduled for December 2023, is still pending certification, leaving residents and officials in limbo.

George Wehner reports from the site, highlighting the stark contrast between facilities for local commuters and private jet travelers, sparking concerns of segregation reminiscent of apartheid-era South Africa.

The new terminal, located in Cadron Village, was intended to replace the current airstrip and terminal, which council members protested against, citing concerns over its relocation. In response, a temporary tent-like structure was erected, housing what was supposed to be the new terminal for locals commuting between Antigua and Barbuda.

On one side of the site stands the small, cramped “squeeze-up” facility for local commuters, while on the other side, a much larger, more luxurious terminal caters to private jet travelers. This stark divide has drawn criticism, with Wehner drawing parallels to apartheid-era segregation.

  1. Absolutely nothing the ABLP
Government and the ABAA Airport Authority does Surprises me.Thats the way they Treat their own black Nationals. They are Sold out for the Love of Money.White People always gets the best, while the blacks suffer up to the day of the coming of JESUS CHRIST.

    • Wow ! It’s such a pity you are too blind to see the weight of the shackles; that bound beyond-beneath the mortal skin: that the fact and face of Colonization by the dollar don’t phase you. You must be filled with ill contempt for the worth of Our People; in the zone-in-zone-out mantra that is fostered by Boos Coon: and his Buffoon cult clan in Governance who,for a few dollars more to maintain would sell their mothers out of existence, without putting them on the sale block. As be it forever known that: anything good on Antigua 🇦🇬 Barbuda: is much too good for Antiguans 🇦🇬 Barbudans In this era of their next Gen: Apartheid-Colonization.

  2. The western superpowers colonial mentality, they are not talking about this, but they are criticizing China who assisted to improve our sea and airport facilities.

  3. Damage control mode activated!!!! Trying to distract the masses from Dr Athill airing out UPP dirty laundry!!! Seeing right through you Georgie boi!!!

    • Is that an issue? The real issues are staring you straight in the eyes. Your offspring will forever be servants and tenants to these same people; remember that.

    • @ Ah Gaston Browne Fault

You guys wish Cleon Athill resigning means the end of UPP, lol, think again.
Cleon is an eccentric individual, i.e. different.
ONE THING I CAN ASSURE YOU OF IS THAT SHE WOULD NEVER SUPPORT RED/ABLP/ NOR U GASTON BROWNE…..TEK IT FROM ME….SHE WOULD RATHER DIE THAN TO PARTAKE OF YOUR CORRUPTION.
SHE DESPISES THE ABLP, SO WHEEL AND COME AGAIN.

  4. What stupidness is this…concentrate on what Cleon Athill said about the DISINTEGRATING UPP . Good deception. Nice try Wehner. You are still A FOOL. Where is your Friend BRIXTONIAN? He is in hiding.

    • I’ve responded @ FERN.

REMEMBER, BRIXTONIAN NEVER HIDES … NEVER!

ANR threads are the best, just like me 😉

  5. This is why I love the Barbudan’s.

They’ve recognised from the get-go that a “two tiered” system was being created; and our second best investigative journalist Mr George Wehner has rightly looked into what’s taking place.

The Barbudan’s would be right in saying “we told you so”.

Keep highlighting the REAL issues Mr Wehner, whilst the ABLP sycophants focus on a pointless resignation.

BTW, George, the number one title for Antigua & Barbuda’s top journalist goes to … Nikki Phoenix!

I hope you don’t mind, however, you are a very close second … 🤜🏽🤛🏽

    😁

  6. Well done Wehner. The insipid, semi-illiterate Labourites and Gastonites would have us distracted by Dr. Athill’s resignation. What about apointing Arthur Thomas who resigned from TWO positions after the FTX ponzi revelation to be unlawfully appointed to our ABEC position? What about the DAWG recycling all these nefarious characters? What about the DAWG’s affiliation with Brian Stewart Young who is being aided by another nefarious character in the courts? What about Stoll’s 10 million that can’t be found amidst the defeaning silence of the FSRC? Or Morgan’s million US that was probably misused?
Cleon Athill’s resignation pails in comparison to these and many more.

  7. This is the exactly the same as VC Bird Airport. One terminal building for commercial traffic and one FBO building for private jets. Like Antigua, Signature FBO paid for their own building and in Barbuda PLH paid for their’s. ABAA does not have alot of funds to pay for an elaborate terminal building there. Private businesses can spend their own money however they see fit to to please their clients.

    • @ J.Tunney, of course private businesses “can spend their own money however they see fit” as you so rightly put it, but surely not to the detriment of the indigenous population, who are treated like second class citizens on their own island.

Come on, you wouldn’t accept the same (I am assuming) in your own country of birth!

  8. @ J.Tunney – don’t you want to see some advancement in the country?
I see you are stuck in the old colonial past of the VC Bird era.
Let’s collect some taxes from thes foreign investors and build a decent terminal

  9. J Tunney you speak like someone with no sense whatsoever! Does that building look like a proper terminal to you in this day and age where there is a greater demand in travels…but I guess since it’s Barbuda, persons there aren’t good enough to enjoy the luxury, they must just settle for less. Imagine if the spanking new VC Bird terminal was only designated for the elites and the old terminal was to be used for the local Antiguan populace, how would you feel?

It’s people like you that are so condescending, make Barbudans don’t want to be in union with Antigua. You all have this notion that Antigua is greater than! Barbuda may be small and appear to people like you that they aren’t worth the fuss but let me tell you, 90% of the people there have life far way better than most in Antigua. No matter what comes their way, they all rise like a Phoenix from the ashes. They still push through and trust me the world is watching and many wish they had the cahunas like Barbudans to stand up for injustice. Try getting some will ya!

    • I am not saying the new “terminal” is sufficient for the general public going forward. ABAA has been clear that it is a temp facility. They have said a proper terminal is getting built over time they just don’t have the funding yet. All I am saying is every international airport in the world has a regular terminal and at least one FBO for the private jets. Its not PLH’s fault that ABAA has not built a nice terminal yet and I understand why PLH doesn’t want all traffic going through their private FBO. As soon as the jets start landing there ABAA can start collecting their landing/parking fees and set things in motion for a proper terminal (hopefully)

  10. George, do you know that many many places that Sir Vivian Richards travel to, he is treated like a king and DOES NOT go through the same routes in the airports as the regular person? It happens all over the world…….. jetters have their space where they are dealt with separately. It happens right here in Antigua at Signature. Maybe you should do the same and make a video about Signature as well. While you are at it, take a walk over to Barnacle Point where the Chinese now own.

  11. Chuuuups Mr Whener. Yes the private jet building is more architecturally pleasing to the eye but it is far from “sprawling” as you say. Both terminals seem to be about the same in size. Much ado about nothing

  12. Some body tell George that locals can be poor and white and VIP jetsetters can be rich and black. Its not a race thing. Its a money thing. If you have the money you get the nice building. Isn’t that life?
