ABLP Candidate Accuses UPP Activist of Staging Water Outage Video
Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate Randy Baltimore has accused a United Progressive Party (UPP) activist of attempting to mislead residents of St. Philip’s North by allegedly shutting off a water meter to create the impression that there was no running water in the community.
In a statement posted to social media, Baltimore claimed that UPP candidate George Whenner “reportedly shut off a water meter in Glanvilles this evening to record a video intended to mislead the people of St. Philip’s North into believing there was no water in the area.”
Baltimore said the video was later contradicted by footage shared by a resident, which he said showed water flowing in the area moments after the initial recording.
“This appears to be yet another example of the UPP’s mantra of misinformation and disinformation,” Baltimore wrote.
He called on his opponent in the March 16 by-election, Alex Browne, and the leadership of the UPP to “publicly and immediately condemn this misleading and harmful action.”
“The ABLP recognizes that our opponents may be feeling desperate, but such tactics do not serve the people,” Baltimore said. “They undermine trust and ultimately harm the democratic process we all share a responsibility to protect.”
There was no immediate response from Whenner or the UPP regarding the allegation.
The by-election in St. Philip’s North is scheduled for March 16.
