Didn’t Gaston Browne know what the Ukrainians got up to in Mali West Africa? I hope he reprimanded these officials in the strongest possible terms.
With his so-called business links with Africa, surely he must say something to them?
The gory details in Mali are not appropriate for this ANR publication, but suffice to say the disturbing information can easily be found online.
Antigua really out ya building connections globally. Love to see it.
Me wonder what kinda partnership dem discuss?
Respect to PM Browne for keeping Antigua on the global radar.
Wonder if they discuss climate, trade, or maybe even student exchanges.
Courtesy call yes, but me hope it lead to something tangible.
As a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda, a Pan Africanist I objecit strongly to the recent move by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to establish diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
While the pursuit of international diplomacy is typically commendable, such relationships should be grounded in mutual respect for human rights and racial equality. The PM is reminded that Ukraine and other Europeans namely France were involved with attempts to assinate President Ibrahim Traore. I therefore call upon the UPP and the nation to stage a strong objections to Ukraine establishing diplomatic realtionship with Antigua. A clear and concise message must be echoed to the Ukraine that Antigua and Barbuda stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Burkina Faso.
In addition It is well-documented through international media reports and firsthand testimonies that, at the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, Black individuals—particularly African and Caribbean students—faced discriminatory and inhumane treatment while attempting to flee the war zone. Videos and accounts surfaced showing Black people being denied access to transportation, forcibly removed from trains, and left stranded in dangerous areas while white Ukrainians were prioritized for evacuation.
These actions raised deep concerns about systemic racism and a disregard for the dignity and safety of people of African descent in Ukraine. To this day, many of these victims have not received formal apologies, justice, or meaningful reparative actions from Ukrainian authorities.
As a small nation with a proud African heritage, Antigua and Barbuda must ensure that our foreign policy reflects our values. Entering into diplomatic ties with a country without addressing such issues sends a troubling message about whose rights and dignity we prioritize.
I urge our government to take these matters into serious consideration. At minimum, diplomatic engagement with Ukraine should include open dialogue about these past abuses and firm
expectations regarding the treatment of all foreign nationals—regardless of
Well said @ Wadadli4ever, like me, you know your black history (past and present).
I also watched the videos and noted how the Ukrainians treated Africans when they were trying to flee the Ukraine 🇺🇦 before the conflict with Russia 🇷🇺 was about commence.
Many Africans had to take very dangerous alternative routes to escape, because the Ukrainians saw them as third class citizens, and didn’t give a damn.
It’s heartbreaking to witness Prime Minister Browne sucking up and kowtowing to these people with their well known far-right tendencies towards person’s of a different hue colour.
Hsve a great day ✊🏾
My Prime Minister. He has made us proud in recent years. In every forum that he is attending he lets us shine. Just this picture with his beautiful little daughter speaks volumes. When last did we had a prime minister so family oriented. A good role model for our young men. Past politicians never showed their families.
