U.S. Southern Command Says Three Killed in Caribbean Strike on Suspected Narco-Trafficking Vessel
U.S. Southern Command said Friday that three suspected narco-terrorists were killed in a military strike in the Caribbean targeting a vessel believed to be engaged in drug trafficking operations.
In a statement posted on social media, U.S. Southern Command said the action took place Feb. 13 under the direction of its commander, Gen. Francis L. Donovan.
The command said Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out what it described as a “lethal kinetic strike” on a vessel operated by designated terrorist organizations.
According to SOUTHCOM, intelligence assessments confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was actively engaged in drug trafficking operations at the time of the strike.
“Three narco-terrorists were killed during this action,” the statement said, adding that no U.S. military personnel were injured.
SOUTHCOM did not identify the vessel, the individuals killed, or the specific location of the operation. Further details about the targeted organizations were also not immediately released.
The operation was conducted as part of what the command referred to as Operation Southern Spear.
