
Tropical Storm Jerry Forces Islandwide Closures and Delays in Antigua
Tropical Storm Jerry continued to disrupt operations across Antigua on Friday, with several government agencies, financial institutions, and private businesses announcing closures and delayed openings due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that all public schools in Antigua and Barbuda would remain closed for the day as a Flash Flood Warning stays in effect.
The Antigua and Barbuda Social Security Board said it will open at 10 a.m. due to the inclement weather, while the National Solid Waste Management Authority announced a full-day closure. The Cooks Sanitary Landfill also remains inaccessible because of impassable roads.

Several businesses suspended operations entirely. Antigua Motors Ltd., Community First Credit Union, Antigua Plumbing and Hardware, and Vernon G. Edwards Ltd./DHL Express Antigua will all remain closed for the day. The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) also reported that its Outpatient Clinics, Laboratory, and Radiology Department are closed.
APUA stated that its commercial offices — including Independence Avenue, Village Walk, South Mall, Old Parham Road, Market Street, and the Mobile Payment Centre — will have delayed openings, while ACB Caribbean branches are set to open at 10:15 a.m.
Telecommunications providers have also adjusted operations. Flow stores remain closed, while Digicel retail locations plan to open at 10 a.m., offering customer support via the MyDigicel App and by dialing 100.
Regional air travel was heavily disrupted, with Caribbean Airlines canceling several flights linking Trinidad, Antigua, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. Passengers affected by the cancellations may rebook without penalty through November 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, ABS Television/Radio said its Boggy Peak transmitter is offline, with technicians working to restore service. News updates will continue via social media and online platforms.
The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service continues to monitor the system as it tracks northwest of the Leeward Islands. Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, and follow official updates as heavy rainfall and gusty winds persist.
