Royalton Staff During December 10, 2024 protest

Royalton Hotel staff are in talks with their union representative, Chester Hughes of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union, after staging a protest over delayed wages and poor working conditions. Though the protest lacked prior union approval, employees voiced frustration and fatigue.

Royalton Antigua Resort & Spa Staff Stage Strike for Better Working Conditions

Workers at Royalton Antigua Resort & Spa have taken industrial action, demanding improved working conditions, respect from management, and better resources to enhance guest services.

The strike, which took place near the resort’s security area, underscores growing dissatisfaction among staff who claim their concerns have been ignored.

The employees are calling for fair distribution of service charges, improved treatment from managers, and adequate supplies to maintain the high standards expected by the resort’s guests.

Additionally, they are seeking enhancements to the staff canteen, including better food quality and availability of essential items.

One worker voiced frustration about the impact of these issues on guest experiences, stating, “Our guests are unhappy, so we’re unhappy too.” Staff believe that without improvements, the resort risks further damaging its reputation.

The Royalton Antigua management has yet to release a statement addressing the workers’ grievances or indicating any immediate plans to resolve the dispute.

However, the striking employees remain firm in their stance, emphasizing that their demands are not just for their own benefit but also for the satisfaction of guests who expect high-quality service during their stay.

  1. I stay at Royalton 2 years ago the price was ridiculous but the rooms and the surrounding was better than the others
I was disappointed about the food and the cleanings of the room and always short of supplies
When you hear the same song over and over something is really wrong
The Union need to stop making deals with these Hoteliers and fight for your dues.
If they cannot agree to pay a fair wage to their staff shut them down going to work daily and you still cannot make ends meet us Ludicrous
Slave mentality in the Hotel industry is because of the govt weakness nd sucking up to these plantation owners

  2. These people are down right worthless. Recently they were in the media with mold infestation, then bed bugs, then insanitary conditions and of course poor working conditions. Someone said they don’t know how people eat there.
They import workers from Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and St.Lucia and behave like slave masters.
This is one of the worst hotel chain in the entire world. I just cannot see them surviving beyond one more decade. They have poor management skills especially these that manage Royalton Five islands. They change general managers several times per year. At least two per year. I don’t trust Chester Hughes he is a crook and takes bribes from the business sector.
They St.Lucian woman that is the assistant or resident manager don’t know a thing about management.
Guys watch out you will be replaced by Mexicans or immigrants from Dominican Republic or even St. Lucians.
They pay to bring these people here , pay accommodations for them at Piller Rocks and even Jolly harbor. They pay transportation to take them to Jolly harbor etc. All types of allowances instead of paying Antiguas what they are worth.
Pm you went at Sandals for far less. Trust me these people are nasty , wicked and worthless.

  3. The Royaltons are plantation mentality. They think our people are slavers. They are prejudice and treat Antiguans poorly. The union representative prefer these crooks than the people that are paying their salaries. Workers demand from your union what you want. Don’t let Chester dictate to you, he works for you not you for him.

  4. This is true. The management needs to take care of the hard working people at this resort. I just stayed there and saw first hand that they are going their best to meet clients expectations. They charge tourists a lot of money to stay at their property and need to honor and respect their staff. Honor their needs or word will spread and no one will come back to Royalton properties. I’m following and if this does not improve, I would never go back.

  5. Stayed at the property in August the food in several restaurants were just outright disgusting. I complained to kitchen staff and they explained that they were getting a new head chef because of the ongoing complaints . Just don’t understand how they can charge so much and have such terrible service . I observed how hard the employees were going out of there way to accommodate the customers but .management is terrible. I would not recommend going on vacation there until they fix issues and start appreciating there employees.
