Residents of St John’s Rural South can expect a series of community improvements over the coming months, including the reopening of a playground within 60 days and the construction of a new park within six months, Member of Parliament Daryll Matthew announced during a town hall meeting.

Matthew told residents that the long-derelict playground in Radio Range will be restored and made operational within the next two months.

“Within the next 60 days, we will have that playground back operational in Radio Range,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.

He also disclosed that the government has acquired approximately one-and-a-half acres of land near Tindale Road for the development of a new community park. The park, he said, is expected to be completed within six months and will include fencing and designated recreational areas.

“We’re going to be fencing it, we’re going to be building out our park,” Matthew said, appealing to residents to help protect and maintain the facility once completed. “If it belongs to the government, it belongs to you. You are the government.”

Matthew said the initiatives are part of his broader effort to improve quality of life in the constituency, noting that access to safe recreational spaces is essential for families.

The MP also highlighted ongoing infrastructure works in the area, including road improvements in Creekside Extension and North Grove. He acknowledged that some projects are taking longer than anticipated but said progress is visible.

“In the Creekside extension, where there were no roads at all, they’re now paving the roads. Concrete roads are going in down there,” he said.

On security, Matthew said the police outpost established in the constituency will become fully staffed once a batch of 50 newly trained recruits is ready for deployment. Until then, patrols will continue in the area.

“We must live happy and comfortably in this constituency,” he said, urging residents to report criminal activity and support efforts to maintain order.

Matthew said the projects reflect clear deliverables tied to specific timeframes and pledged to continue advocating for resources at the Cabinet level to address outstanding issues in the community.

  1. With election soon ABLP is going to bring Heaven down to Earth. Do not be surprised if a lot of things get started and stalled or done shabby just to create an impression. You all got to remember they take us for fools because we have always bought their bull crap

  2. Every minister should construct a first class youth recreational and development center in their constituency. Am talking about a center, where not only can you develop your computer skills, but music, instrumental or vocals, dance, a transitional gym, a theatrical auditorium, any after school catching up, while on the outside a well manicured play ground versatile enough to accommodate all local sports, and athletics, perhaps even a skate boarding and BMX bike area, a mean if youths across the world can make it big, skating and riding, why can’t our youths make a go at it? Now these center must be well managed and looked after. While our youths continue to stray, we must find ways to bring them back.
