Resident Raises Concerns Over Months-Long Burst Pipe Near Transport Board

A resident is calling for urgent action after a burst pipe near the Government Transport Board reportedly went unrepaired for more than three months, even as some communities face ongoing water shortages.

In a Facebook post circulating on Thursday, Brittany Murrain said the pipe along the road leading to the Transport Board has been leaking for months, sending treated water “straight down the road.”

“For over THREE MONTHS now, there has been a burst pipe on the road leading to the Government Transport Board — yes, the same place where people go to get their driver’s license,” she wrote.

Murrain said she reported the issue again three weeks ago and was told it had already been documented and would be fixed. “Up to now, nothing has been done. The pipe is still burst and water is still running straight down the road,” she added.

She contrasted the apparent waste with ongoing supply challenges in other parts of the country.

“Meanwhile, my area — and other areas in Antigua — do not have running water,” she wrote. “We are being told there isn’t enough water to supply people, yet water has been wasting publicly for months and nothing is being done about it?”

Describing the situation as “unacceptable,” Murrain called for accountability and urged the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) to address the issue promptly.

“There needs to be accountability. This needs to be fixed. Enough is enough,” she wrote.
