VIDEO: Pringle Tells UPP Motorcade Vehicle Scandal Is ‘Tip of the Iceberg’

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle used a United Progressive Party motorcade on Sunday to intensify calls for an independent investigation into the Ministry of Works, arguing that the public has been misled about the scale of alleged financial irregularities.

Pringle told supporters that Prime Minister Gaston Browne had “told us that his wife ministry was involved in a $15 million scam,” referring to the controversy surrounding the government’s purchase of more than 200 vehicles. He said that if such an admission came directly from the prime minister, “it’s a lot worse than he’s telling us.”

According to Pringle, individuals within the Ministry of Works have contacted him, insisting that the so-called “VehicleGate” matter represents “just the tip of the iceberg.” He said those employees urged him to push for separate investigations into the government-owned quarries and the state-operated concrete plant.

“We demand accountability. We demand transparency,” Pringle said. “Anything less from the government is a disrespect to you the people of not only All Saints East and St. Luke but Antigua and Barbuda.”

He called on residents across the country to join the UPP’s demand for a fully independent probe and said both the Minister of Works and the prime minister, who also serves as minister of finance, should step aside pending the outcome.

Pringle told the gathering that the opposition would not back down from its position. “We will not rest until there’s an independent investigation into the Ministry of Works,” he said.
