Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle said the United Progressive Party has already initiated efforts to engage the United States as part of a push to restore strained international relations.

Speaking during a virtual UPP public rally, Pringle told supporters the party was actively pursuing dialogue with international partners and was not waiting passively for political change.

“We assure you that the United Progressive Party is not sitting idly. We have already made moves to sit down with our international partners, starting with the United States, to discuss how trust can be restored and our relationships can be improved,” Pringle said.

He also said the party was prepared to consult taxpayers and stakeholders on the future of the Citizenship by Investment Programme, warning that the programme must serve the interests of the public.

“If it doesn’t, then we will have to make the tough decision to scrap the CIP programme,” Pringle said.

The remarks came amid ongoing public debate over visa restrictions, international scrutiny, and Antigua and Barbuda’s diplomatic standing, issues that featured prominently throughout the rally.
