Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged the people of Antigua and Barbuda to aim higher and unite as the nation embarks on a new year.
Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, he reflected on the country’s achievements in 2024 and outlined goals for continued progress in 2025.
During the event, Mr. Browne referenced Psalm 150:6, calling for all to give thanks regardless of political affiliation. He welcomed the participation of opposition members, describing the day as a national institution that transcends partisanship.
Mr. Browne reviewed the country’s economic performance in 2024, reporting a 6% expansion and improvements in the banking sector.
He recalled the challenges faced a decade ago when Antigua and Barbuda’s banking system was the worst-performing within the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
He noted that domestic banks posted combined profits exceeding $100 million last year.
Tourism arrivals also saw an upturn, and the government was able to address several longstanding developmental issues. While acknowledging that challenges remain, Mr. Browne expressed confidence in further progress during 2025.
He called on citizens to increase their contributions to national development, encouraging ambition across economic, social, environmental, and spiritual areas. He said the government had set a clear vision for the future and urged unity in achieving the country’s goals.

A statesman and leader par excellence!
But yet still nothing change about the government itself.

Show business. Classical behavior of politicians when the camera is on
Is that the same Bowen that withdrew his support for Richard Lewis
They low key hate each other
Awkward, neither look like they want a hand shake from the other
The banking sector have a long way to go still. ECAB is synonymous with “bare stress to access your own money.” CIBC need to reopen their branch in town. Dem ah overdo with their ridiculously long lines and wait times. ACB your online banking platform is not user-friendly. Do better.
Why was Pringle missing again from such an important event? Did he had to help Werner campaigning or what. This man really want to be the “None Playing Captain” of his team. What a shame. Harold did he same thing when he couldn’t win his seat.
The ambiance of the country do not reflect any growth. Of course Antigua has beautiful beaches but what about the beautification of the rest of the country, including the same beaches. Toilet facilities on the beaches for tourists and locals. Beautiful tropical plants along the highway and other selected areas.
Garbage receptacles placed on the beaches and other areas. Have the litter wardens start working under cover and charging people for throwing out stuff out their vehicles. Patrolling the beaches to ensure the beach goers take their garbage with them.
Start an education campaign in schools from kindergarten, right to university. Let’s get a clear and beautiful Antigua.
In a world of extreme partisanship, yesterday was a nice example of God over country and country over party. The country is progressing and the political community here was gracious yesterday. It may not transcend to governance, but it still was better than what most world governments are doing of late.
