VIDEO: PM says the state will fund plastic surgery abroad for woman mauled by Pit Bull

1. This is what you call a caring Prime Minister. Going out of his way to assist a person that urgently is in need of financial help. He guarantees her that the MBS will contributes to her recovery. I would want to see the dog owner forfeit these expenses. She cannot be left of the hook for this.

2. Gassy will get MBS to fund her medical expenses meaning not going through the regular process of approval going straight to the MBS Board……rubs chin…..Anywayz congratulations to her once again and wishing her all the best…..

3. I know it’s family, but this is still considered a crime. Was there any charges made or further actions taken?

4. Why should the state have to foot the bill. The owner ifvthe digs should pay for all of her medical expenses. If they own a home and have home owners insurance, then let the insurance take care of it. Family or not. That breed of dogs are known to be very temperamental and should be caged and muzzled

5. I am all for helping people who have health challenges to get the medical assistance they need abroad. But we cannot be selective in so doing and only help some people whilst others are left to struggle whilst raising funds on their own through private means. Antigua & Barbuda Broadcasting Station (ABS) recently undertook to raise monies to assist Sharilyn Beazer in getting medical attention abroad. Government did not decide to foot her medical bill and many others like her. My point is, we have to be careful in our selective approach to helping some people and not others. Everyone deserves a chance at life and living. Government must act as the catalyst to raise funds through private donations instead of using tax payers money in this manner.

7. Politicians never let a good crisis go to waste. Yes the young lady is in need of serious medical care but this is all politics on Gaston’s part.
   What are the responsibilities of the Homeowner and the dogs owner? Let’s hope they are prosecuted by the law. Antigua & Barbuda cannot be this BACKWARDS by not having laws to deal with things such as this.

8. The owner of the dogs is liable. The government should not be footing this bill. Many have died without any assistance, even with ailments that don’t carry such a large bill. This is a political move and nothing more.

   The state will fund her medical issues.
   Why aren’t we holding the dog ow er responsible?
   Yes, its her family’s dog and she may not want to fight her family in court.
   However the state should not absolve the vicious dog owner of her responsibilities.
   We read in stories related to the dog attack that the owner had been cautioned by other family member of the propensity of the dog to attack.
   It happened.
   Not that I am rejoicing however thankfully it attacked a family member.
   While a criminal case cannot be made up against the owner a civil case can be.
   If the victim loves her family more than herself so be it.
   Let the state stay out of it.
   There is no reason why the state should take on the financial responsibility before the dog owner.

11. This could have ended much worse. Grateful she’s alive, but this shows how quick things can go wrong. People love these big dogs but don’t secure them properly. Let’s not wait till a child get mauled before we act.

14. Wait…Wait ..Wait.. How many people are suffering serious medical condition in Antigua and Barbuda and are not receiving support like this from the government. Because they don’t have Pretty Face/Body?
    So pretty women from medium class income family can get free medical bills, but Poor/ugly woman can’t get same treatment? not even a proper attention from the Emergency Room at the Hospital?
    This is a completely private matters why government should interfere how this family handle the internal conflicts of interest and medical expenses? they are not poor family and by far they aren’t in need.. Government want to pay for expensive medical procedure because what? She graduate from UWI? Why she is being benefits over the thousand of women suffering here on the island? REal one that life in the line of poverty.

    Pretty/Medium class/High lvl of education…You get benefits right away.
    Ugly/Poor/Primary education -> trashed.
    I’m not taking this…im against this move. The owner of the dog should pay for everything.
    How many people in the last 20 years got attacked by dogs? none of them become so public like this… I’m not supporting this. How many women are suffering with worse health condition without support? Now this woman get the support? Nope Nope Nope.
    Government need to give assistance to the ones that are in the line first and stop jumping to help right away this girl.

    Dogs are good and loyal animals but I think the ‘pit bull breed’ is illegal. Hmmm.

17. happy to hear she getting the help, but let’s be real them dog laws need fixing. Can’t wait till another innocent person get attack before something serious change.

18. While I sympathize with Shabo, the aunt must face some level of responsibility. Those dogs should never have had access to anyone like that. Pet owners have to be held accountable when they fail to secure dangerous animals.

19. I wish this young woman well but you can pay for all her medical expenses, buffoon. Why the state? What does the aunt pay, where are the charges, why have these dogs not been put down???? This goes on the “ridiculist”
