PM Praises New Public Works Director for Hands-On Leadership
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has applauded the leadership of the new Director of Public Works, Collis King, describing his approach as more hands-on and effective than that of his predecessor.
Speaking on his weekly Pointe FM programme on Saturday, Browne commended King for instilling a renewed sense of motivation and pride among the ministry’s workforce.

“I think we have a director as well who should be commended—young King,” the Prime Minister said. “He has a more hands-on approach than the previous director.
The previous director is very knowledgeable, but in terms of really being on the ground with the workers and ensuring we’re getting value for money, I think Collis is doing an excellent job.”
Browne noted a marked improvement in worker morale under King’s leadership, praising the synergy between the director and the Minister of Works.
“Between himself and the minister, I have never seen Public Works with workers showing that level of motivation.
They’re taking pride in the work,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the passion of some workers, referencing viral videos of Public Works employees chastising members of the public for damaging freshly repaired roads.
“Some of them we can’t even play on the programme,” he joked, underscoring the workers’ commitment.
The comments come as the government intensifies infrastructure upgrades across the country, with roadworks and drainage improvements underway in several communities.
