Prime Minister Gaston Browne has firmly rejected suggestions that the United States may impose travel restrictions on Antiguan and Barbudan citizens, following recent speculation in international media.
In an interview with ABS, Mr Browne addressed claims reportedly published in The Washington Post indicating that the US government could consider blocking nationals from entering its borders. He dismissed the idea outright.

“I can reassure the people of Antigua and Barbuda that that will never happen,” the Prime Minister said. “We are too competent, too skilful, and we have the diplomatic expertise to ensure that the relationship with the United States remains intact.”
Mr Browne’s comments come amid growing discussion over the country’s Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP), which has drawn scrutiny from international partners, including the United States and the European Union.
He criticised local opponents whom he accused of spreading fear and misinformation. “Despite the naysayers… and all their propaganda, you need not worry because you’re in safe hands,” he told the nation.
The United States has not issued any official statement confirming a change in policy toward Antigua and Barbuda. Diplomatic relations between the two countries remain in place, with cooperation continuing across a range of areas including security, trade, and education.

Ok uncle Gassy.
“Will never happen”? That’s confidence but me hope there’s follow‑through.
PM mentioning rigorous vetting in CIP programmes—smart reassurance.
Keep the citizens informed—lack of clarity breeds hype and fear.
A win is a Win
I was bit worried about that
Again, this stubborn nincompoop of a Prime Minister was warned a few years ago not to outsource the CIP vetting procedures to any third parties.
Did he listen? No not at all!
I mean, who checks the checkers?
The European authorities had already warned this government that they would be monitoring our CIP, and now the US are doing the exact same said thing. Mercy!!!
Browne’s stubbornness and pig-headed behaviour is doing so much harm to this great country of ours.
He needs advisors quick, quick double quick.
Yes Antiguan’s shouldn’t worry, because we all know that you will comply with the order of the US Mr Browne.. don’t be foolish?
And this is what should have been said from the get go, instead of this loud mouth bluster from your Foreign Minister.
But you have to laugh sometimes, because this so-called skilled government always cleaning up after the fact, why?
Not a mark of good leadership to me.
This is really a strategy and part of the “art of the deal” that the US uses to get countries to adhere, comply and heed to their request. . It is all a part of the Trump game plan to bring about compliance. Countries are called into action or further steps would be taken by the US to pressure them. Whilst the general public might not be Privy to the talks and changes, Antigua and Barbuda would make several concessionary steps with their CIP, perhaps even a residency component, in order to appease the US and ensure compliance. The US was adamant and fundermentally opposed and against the Cuban Healthcare initiative in its current format and though many countries rebuffed them initially, they have all already taken action to correct the US concerns. Already , the Bahamas have ceased further participation in the scheme and you can bet that other countries will soon follow suit. The US will not relent until it is stopped completely.
I heard people expressing their concern, never heard anyone spreading fear or propaganda, you just can’t help yourself, always looking for someone to blame
Yeah that’s what he said but…… should we believe? Time enough we stop listening to Gaston and his crap
Laughs! A government that talk and only talk rubbish. Say whatever PM Browne, let your words be led by actions cause actions speaks louder
While it’s important for a leader to project confidence, ‘That will never happen’ is a very strong statement when you’re talking about potential US sanctions. This issue with the CIP and visa restrictions is deeply concerning, and it will take more than just words to fully resolve it. We need concrete action and continued dialogue to safeguard our citizens’ travel rights.
Since when did Brown say anything believable? Big rhetoric from a little man. I have never agreed with the idea of CIP. I don’t believe a man should be able to buy a citizenship period!!
During covid we would not ban but sure bet usa banned
We might be one nation , one vote ; but isreal vs. Iran has shown me one thing, suffering means nothing
So what happened to our Visa free access to Canada?
I guess that too will Jeter happen.
Don’t worry with Gaston Browne’s nonsense, behaving as if he runs the State Department and controls America’s Foreign Policies. What he is not telling us, that apart from his Foreign Affairs Minister mouthing off about fighting for CIP, as if it’s something worthwhile fighting for, Gaston Browne has already capitulate to the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to discontinue with the disgraceful Citizenship by investment Program.
He is now coming with his forked tongue talking about, having skilled Diplomates and Negotiating Team.
What this infidel has decided to do, is to trade off with the US, to discontinue with the CIP Program, at a later period, that’s all was done, he beg time to replace the CIP funding, with other sources of income for its replacement.
The Deai has already been done, and any school boy in 6th grade could have accomplish this piece of negotiation, it’s a done deal, that’s why Gaston Browne is speaking to confidently..
Antigua News Room !! What is your real Objective?? Is it to stifle the truth and to protect the Antigua Labour Party and Gaston Browne.
You have conflicted several of my Articles before by failing to publishing them.
You are nothing but a Mercenary Syndicate whom sole purpose, is twist and distraught the truth. Shame on you, you are nothing but a waste of time and an information snatcher.
Ask Stuart Young former PM of T&T, he sounded very confident about the future of the dragon gas program after speaking with little Marco, but this program was quickly shut down by America. Why are we so addicted to having access to countries who clearly don’t want us in their space. Any caribbean national who can afford to vacation in Europe, USA or Canada can be considered wealthy and as such don’t need to vacation in these countries they can go elsewhere. Are we prepared to go ban for ban, do or leaders have the strength and political will to do that? Unfortunately it is all about the tourist dollar not about the dignity of caribbean people.
The top brown ugly dawg!
He real funny looking!
I don’t understand how pixie look up into that face.🤔
Advising future caution on antagonizing leaders of the western world with these very definitive statements.
Next thing we know, our western neighbours will be pushing back hard, through sanctions and what our country is expected to give up/ deliver in exchange for keeping the right of travel & entry for A&B citizens.
Gaston just exploiting serious issue in people’s life that he has no power over to sound as though he is the repository of all good things for Antigua forgetting that we are suffering because of him, I had planned to go Canada on our travel without visa days, but so much Jamaican and middle east people get our passports and went there making trouble we the real Antiguans are shut out, he did the same thing jump on his radio station and said he and Justin Trudeau are friends and he will whisper in his ears to lift the visa restrictions, now he on his radio saying Antiguans will not affected by USA visa travel ban, but wait what the hell about reciprocity? Some African countries start require Americans to apply for visa,
“Will never happen” Because Antigua and Barbuda Government will do anything and everything to appease the U.S Government…. including pull their pants down, bending over exposing the a-hole. WHATEVER IT TAKES.
Gaston Browne, if any Country is not in compliance the people will suffer. Those seeking Visas would be hurt with many being denied. Then those with Visas could come into the Country. Only to be stopped by Customs and Immigration at the Airports and be sent back to Antigua. By the way, those of you with your Diplomatic Passports can be and could be denied entry also. There are no guarantees of entry into any Country, to include the USA.
