Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision on Pares Main Road

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Monday, 16 February 2026

The police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding a traffic collision on Pares Main Road that resulted in the death of 47-year-old Gregson Hixon of Grays Farm.

The incident involved a white Honda Fit motor car that was travelling from west to east along Pares Main Road.

The allegations are that the driver swerved to avoid colliding with an animal in the vicinity of Welch’s Supermarket and collided with the sidewalk on the southern side of the road.

As a result, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which subsequently veered off the northern side of the road and collided with a large stone.
The impact caused the vehicle to overturn onto its side and burst into flames.

Both the driver and the passenger were rescued from the vehicle with the assistance of fire officers and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

They were transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where Hixon later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The driver remains in the hospital in stable condition.

The Police Administration extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.

Motorists are reminded to exercise due care and attention on the nation’s roads, particularly in areas that are poorly lit.
Drivers are also urged to remain vigilant for stray animals, especially along roadways bordered by densely overgrown vegetation.

  1. This is nonsense they need to charge The animal owners for reckless endangerment… we are living in modern times with prehistoric laws … i don’t own a goat or sheep and yet everyday goats venturing on my property and eating my plants.. yes let’s hear the comments maybe someone would say I should fence my property but fencing the goats are not the solution because they are up and down the roads as well until it is dusk and then you see them heading home. .. enough is enough..

  2. My grandpa always tell me when them in the road and you driving and especially if there is upcoming traffic its better to hit down the animal than to swerve.

  5. The speed limit signs on that road clearly state 20 MPH within the vicinity of the village and 40 MPH outside the village area.
Are these speed limits too low for the drivers on our roads?
Shouldn’t traffic officers be placed on the highways to issue tickets to drivers who exceed the designated speed limits?
This approach should solve this chronic problem on our roads.

  6. I’m suffering from a back , shoulder and knee problem from someone cow that was eating my plants. I tried to get the cow out and was thrown to the ground. Even if that side is fence they would find a way in. Funny thing I told him about the incident but I’ve not gorn to him about my pains. Animals owners should do more to keep their animals under control. Condolences to his family and loved ones.
