Employees at Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Works staged industrial action on Tuesday, blocking the road outside the ministry as they demanded payment of outstanding wages.
The action was confirmed by George Wehner, who said workers took the protest to press for outstanding payments owed to them.
Heavy-duty ministry trucks were positioned across the roadway, bringing traffic to a standstill and restricting access to the ministry as employees gathered outside the compound.
The demonstration caused traffic delays in the area, with motorists forced to wait or seek alternative routes while the road remained blocked.
Up to the time of publication, the Ministry of Works and the government had not issued a public response to the industrial action or indicated when the outstanding payments would be made.
It was also unclear whether talks were underway between the employees and government officials to resolve the dispute.

I support this government but I also have no problem with calling them out…Come on government fix this issue asap and pay the employees for their hard work….
Look, how many of these Ministry of Works employees voted to re-elect the ABLP at the recent General Election?
I bet it was a very high percentage of them?
In the past, this government has had a very poor record of paying Public Sector workers on time. Yet, despite these continuous years of delays and dire warnings about this duplicitous government, they were returned to power. Ridiculous!
It is very difficult to feel any sympathy right now for my fellow Antiguans, simply because the voting public had enough warnings ⚠️ of what was going to happen if Gaston Browne and the ABLP were returned to power – it really wasn’t rocket science.
Remember, that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results (as in returning Gaston Browne to office) is some kind of madness!
Many commentators like me told you so…
…Oh, and BTW, guess which government workers ALWAYS get their stipends 💰 on time?
ONE GUESS…
WORKers deserve their pay
