VIDEO: Lovell Urges Independent Roads Body, Blasts “Drip, Drip” Repairs in All Saints West

United Progressive Party All Saints West caretaker Harold Lovell is calling for an independent highways and roads authority, arguing that road building in Antigua and Barbuda has become overly politicised and lacks long-term planning.

Speaking on Observer Radio on Monday, Lovell said residents in All Saints West continue to complain about deteriorating inner roads once they turn off the main routes. He said the country’s expanding vehicle traffic makes planning urgent, but maintained there is no clear national strategy for road development, prioritisation and congestion relief.

Lovell said he would advocate for an “independent highways and roads authority or commission,” contending that roads “have become politicized” and decisions should be driven by technical planning rather than political considerations.

He also raised drainage as a recurring failure point, saying repairs are often short-lived because water management is not addressed alongside roadworks. As an example, he referenced repeated patching along the Buckley Line area and described the government’s approach as “drip, drip,” rather than a coordinated fix designed to last.

Lovell argued that a structured, independent body could set priorities based on need and usage, develop a multi-year plan, and ensure road construction is integrated with proper drainage design to prevent ongoing damage and repeated spending.

  1. I’m glad that you’ve highlighted the lackadaisical response to the major arterial thoroughfare of All Saints Road, your Honourable Harold Lovell.

    Keep reminding the government sir.

I recall that Minister Bird-Browne was going to make an important announcement and update on this matter before the recent holiday break; and we’ve yet to hear a pipsqueak out of her.

Why the current delay when promises were specifically made about commencement? What is the problem now? And why has Maria Bird-Browne gone so damn quiet?

    Is she still depon holiday?

Here’s a question for those of us who are concerned about the way the country is going: How do you know when this government is in dire trouble?

Yep, that’s right, when they stay SILENT on crucial issues like our poor infrastructures, the high costs of living, and rising crime rates.

Remember ABLP, what sweet inna goats 🐐🐐🐐🐐 mout’ sour in dem bottom …

When is his next appointment with the CARDIOLOGIST????

  3. Lovell wants to run Pringle from UPP. Pringle is the only UPP Candidate MIGHT win His seat. So Pringle will always lead UPP.

  4. I agree with his perspective on this matter. More planning is needed. The age of sugar cake has passed. We need proper road repairs, not just adding asphalt on top of asphalt. The edges of the road also need to be properly done. Asphalt should not be above concrete gutters. This is why the roads don’t last.

  5. LOSER LOVELL go sit your weary old tired baxide somewhere else. Politics is not for you. Lying is your specialty so try sales and lottery tickets

You re-enter politics just to get yet another ass whooping
