Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, has been presented with the Kailasa Mitra Award — a distinguished honour bestowed by the United States of Kailasa in recognition of his visionary leadership and dedication to public service.
The award, symbolising friendship and respect between the two nations, highlights what officials described as the “deep, long-standing ties” between Kyasa and Antigua and Barbuda, rooted in shared values, cultural respect, and cooperation for global harmony.
During the ceremony, Minister Greene expressed gratitude, describing the award as a “recognition of service” to the people of Antigua and Barbuda rather than a personal achievement.
“I accept this award tonight on behalf of a grateful nation,” he said. “It speaks to service — not necessarily personal, but one provided on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda.”
Greene reflected on the five-year relationship between Kailasa and Antigua and Barbuda, praising the organisation’s continued presence in the country and its engagement with local communities, including St Paul’s.
He encouraged members of the group to integrate within Antiguan society and to share “positive values of selflessness and service to humanity.”
The minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, describing the bond between the two nations as a partnership built on mutual respect and shared humanitarian ideals.
“This award speaks to friendship,” Greene added. “Your recognition tonight confirms that, in your eyes, I am your friend. Long live our friendship and the positive values that unite us.”
He extended warm greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the Cabinet, and the people of Antigua and Barbuda, thanking Kyasa for choosing the twin-island nation as host for its meetings.
“We are welcoming and appreciative,” Greene said. “You could have chosen anywhere in the world, but you chose Antigua and Barbuda — and for that, we are thankful.”
In closing, he called for continued collaboration to promote ethical conduct, social responsibility, and family values within communities.
The event marked what organisers called a “celebration of shared humanity” and a reaffirmation of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to global friendship, peace, and cooperation.
